- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2021The main character, Jazz Healy, is likeable and more than capable to carry this series as we learn fairly early on she has a complicated family history. She generally works solo, which forces her to think ahead and keep a plan B in her back pocket.
Jazz is hired to find out who is behind recent murders and she runs into challenges along the way while getting some unexpected help. She also has a secondary task transporting some special cargo that has a longer lasting impact. Her past also catches up with her adding another layer of complexity as she navigates her way through solving the case by having one foot on either side of the law.
There is some great world building here and I’m hopeful the next books in the series return to some of the explored locations on the visited worlds as well as other worlds and settings. Some interesting character interactions along the way lay the groundwork for some potential return appearances I hope to see in future installments.
This is a fun sci-fi noir story and I can’t wait to see where the series goes. I have book two Chak’r’Das next up. Great buy for both books.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2022Jazz Healy sets out on a routine delivery mission only to discover two animal activists and the cultish Novus Replicates have other plans. Her cargo of pets, including a highly valuable splice kitten, is suddenly much more!
Against the backdrop of a vibrant Science Fiction world, this book is primarily about relationships. Animal activists Xandra and her father Tollett as well as Jazz and her own Mother navigate the complexities of family. All while dealing with rich backstories and that adorable splice kitten.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2023A young women alone on a ship and she only has to worry about herself. Then unexpectedly she has stowaways when she is just delivering live young animals.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2021The world building is excellent, the characters are believable and rather wonderfully ordinary, and the kitten is just awesome. I love science fiction that isn't doom, death, and destruction; Miltan Epsilon is a perfect example of my kind of story. I highly recommend this enjoyable book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2021An interesting blend of mystery and adventure in a sci fi setting. Breaking away from the family business isn't easy and taking on stowaways turns out to have lasting effects. Jazz has a mystery to solve and her stowaways turn into crew and friends in the process. The final kicker was a surprise at the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2022Are you tired of somber, heavy sci fi that leans so heavily on military jargon you feel you've been conscripted into the Galactic Epic Battle Forces? Well then, this is the series for you! Packed full of adventure, compelling characters, and carefully crafted worldbuilding, Miltan Epsilon is your introduction to the world of Jazz Healy, an independent spacer with a penchant for trouble. She doesn't always go looking for trouble, but it always seems to find her, whether in the form of dubiously sourced cargo, well-intentioned fanatics, or her less well-intentioned but extremely well-connected mother. I enjoyed the first book so much I dove right into the next as soon as I finished it. Then the next. Then the next! What a wonderful and refreshing change from the dour militaristic tomes populating the market right now, I truly can't express how much enjoyment I got from this series!
