From the deepest despairs to the steamist details, this book is so exquisitely written that I look forward to saying "I told you so from the beginning" as Ms Britt's star grows bigger and brighter to a more mainstream audience."

★★★★★ "If you like ROCKSTAR romances, you will LOVE RAPTURE! Justice Cross is so different from any other Rockstar you will ever meet. If this is NN Britt's debut, I CANNOT wait to see what she has in store for us readers. It's heart wrenching, honest, and incredible. Oh my, where to even start?!?! The last two days of reading N N Britt have been a whirlwind of emotions and love for this incredible new author. I'm only sad that there aren't more books available at this moment, but I will definitely be waiting with as much patience as possible for her next work. It's been quite some time since I have come across an author who moved me so much and reminded me how very much I love to get lost in these fictional worlds.

Hazel and Justice are from two very different worlds, really about as far apart on any spectrum as they could possibly be. Each is broken in divergent ways, but when fate, or simply poor timing force them into each other's lives, will chemistry or rage draw the final hand? Or is there something much deeper waiting under the stormy skies warring over them?

I was blown away by Severance, and the only thing I desired to read after was the other book by this author that had been sitting, lonely, collecting spiderwebs, on my Kindle for months. In all honesty, I didn't remember having purchased it when I went to grab it from Amazon once I had started to breathe again after Dakota, Mikah and Alana. I went in blind after reading only a page or two of the preview in the back of Severance. I knew it would be intense, even if I wasn't entirely convinced it could stand up to what I had just read. Oh ye of little faith.

Speaking of faith, let's speak a bit about Justice Cross (the word is tattooed on his hand, and makes a number of important, perhaps vital is a better word, appearances throughout Rapture.) It's certainly no secret that rockstars are my kryptonite, and Justice probably ticks more boxes on my list than many, most, whatever, fictional rockstars do (and it's also no secret that I have perused a very large number of them over the past few years.) If The Deviant, the band he leads, was a real band, I have no doubt they would land up there near Avenged Sevenfold, Hanoi Rocks and Bullet for my Valentine amongst my favorites. Every detail described fits in with my favorite things about the music that has literally rocked my life since I was much younger than Hazel was when she married Owen. We don't need to expound on all things "cross" and "deviant", or one of their signature tunes that is frequently mentioned, but we'll just say that I can easily see myself in the audience at many of their shows. The long hair, denim and leather, even (or sometimes especially) the makeup....it all works for me, even if it is typically the guitarist that draws me in, rather than the lead singer/frontman. There is so much more to Justice though, and those are the things that are truly causing my top three book boyfriends list to expand to four. Watching him struggle to accept the changes in himself, his goal of being a better man, and his need to fix everything, are things of beauty in and of themselves; but the memories of similarities in that area to the guitarist I am happily married to make him golden.

Hazel cannot go without mention here. I will admit that I often have troubles truly embracing heroines in the many rockstar romances I so adore. If your heart doesn't break for Hazel, I question whether you own a soul, but beyond her devastating loss, I found myself able to relate to her struggles and insecurities. Yes, there were times I found some of her actions maddening, but I realized that was in the context of knowing things she didn't. Overall she is simply amazing. Well played, van Gogh.

I realize this review is turning into a novella, but I just have to mention the playlist before I end this. I do always enjoy seeing what music inspires authors, but this one is stellar. So many bands I adore, and I could see how so many of the songs tie in beautifully. Two songs included by one of my favorite artists gave me a new appreciation for those songs that, admittedly, I wasn't sure what to think of when they were included on the latest album. I also loved the inclusion of a song by the band Pallisades, which is one of those bands that I just don't understand why they aren't better known. So while a playlist may not have much to do with a book, and certainly not a book review, it means a lot to me, as someone who lives and breathes music and to whom music filters through to every part of my life.

Bottom line, my highest recommendations to the extent that I will call it an absolute must read. From the deepest despairs to the steamist details, this book is so exquisitely written that I look forward to saying "I told you so from the beginning" as Ms Britt's star grows bigger and brighter to a more mainstream audience.

    ***TRIGGER WARNING***
    breath play

N.N. Britt gives some indication on the product page about the topics she chooses for her storyline; kudos for that. Only there is no mention of the one topic that will make this book a hard pass isn't.

That is the portrayal of breath play. I have read a few series with this topic.( Queens&Monsters and The River City) The portrayal in this book really gave me pause. Enough to do something I normally don't do; I shared it with a friend because they are The Alpha Dom the author writes Justice Cross to be. I can sanitize most of what they said but basically. Everybody thinks reading or watching 50 shades makes them in the know. No Dom worth knowing would do a introduction like these scenes. Amateur breath play can get you 18 to life or the grave real quick. Which solidified my view that the scenes crossed over into abuse and not play.

Before these scenes occurred actually liking the book As Justice Cross was reminding me of another book character I really liked. Phoenix Walker from the book The Words. This was a big part of why I finished the book. My only complaint at the start was a unfortunate word choice, that was used repeatedly. "Justice husks in her ear." Heaven's there is more husks in 400 pages then I feel I saw on my great grandmother's farm during corn harvest.😂 It belonged there but, as a description for a time of voice? The dictionary even disagrees.

Actually ended up liking the second part of the book and wish Justice and Hazel story was part of a deut as it ended where it felt a lot was unresolved. That's why I decided on 3 stars. The beginning and end hooked me . The middle I wish I could give it a -10 Most conflicting read ever. Going from thinking I was going to buy it to being thankful it was a KU read.

Chance meeting in a bar in Lake Tahoe bring Justice and Hazel together. They both are going through terrible divorces and carry lots of baggage with them. Can these 2 people find true love and happiness? Through all the ups and downs in this book there is truly a HEA. Looking forward to reading the next book in the Deviant Heart series.

It’s not really my genre necessarily but it was a good palette cleanser from what I’ve been reading. The characters were well written and the story was sweet and sexy….just like Justice.

Thus novel isn't an easy read. It's one thar will leave you crying and hurting...and laughing and smiling....all within the same chapter. Hazel isn't your everyday perfect heroine. Rather, she has her faults and being an active alcoholic isn't the worst of them. The hero has his own demons he's fighting. Rhat said, they each find their HEA with each other.

I don’t usually ready rock star books, but this one pulled me in from the start to the last word. It’s very good and it has a wonderful, relatable story.

Beware: there are a lot of triggers in this book. It has all the feels and emotions, but that’s what makes it interesting.

I highly recommend this wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 20, 2019
A good lengthy read at 400 plus pages, so this was already a winner for me before I even started reading, I love a book that is a novel and not just a handful of chapters as you so often find these days. This book grabbed me from the very start, the storyline quickly became compelling reading with the two main characters having been written in such depth.

Hazel Alexander and Justice Cross were both very complex individuals affected by their pasts; Hazel, who’s life had literally fallen apart in every conceivable way and Justice who, influenced by his debaucherous life style on the road with his world-famous band, Deviant and his putrefying marriage to a woman who was even more conceited and self-absorbed than he was. But below the surface pain that both characters endured lay a torture far greater, one who was fighting for a dead child and the other for a child very much alive.

I really didn’t know what to make of the two main protagonists in the beginning. Hazel was a complete and utter mess, whilst Justice, apart from his smouldering good looks, didn’t have a lot going for him to endear the reader. In fact, I didn’t like him much at all for the first half of the story. He was so self-absorbed with the exception of his feelings for his son and wanting to do right and be a better man and father for him.

However, the author really knew her characters to their very core and dug deep to create a very plausible storyline and gradually, as I became invested in their fight to survive, both as individuals and as a couple, I couldn’t help but fall in love with them both.

Hazel’s strength grew and grew and she became a strong and powerful force in forging a strong bond between herself and Justice. I loved the way she knew she had to heal herself first before she could make any sort of commitment to him. Justice faced so many difficulties, between his devious estranged wife who was hell bent on making his life intolerable, his errant band members and his tumultuous relationship with Hazel. However, he emerged as a rock steady, supportive and totally steadfast partner to Hazel and I loved him for it.

This book has so many feels. It is so well written and edited that you sense all the emotions the characters are going through and some of it is quite harrowing. The story flows beautifully and it is one that will stay with me for a long time.

The epilogue is written in a refreshingly different way to most and indicates that there is possibly more to come from Deviant or whatever they might become. It definitely leaves it open in that respect and I’d love to know the story behind each band member and how they all move forward…..I do hope this is just the start!

A gritty story full of angst with troubled characters searching for meaning within their lives. Hot, touching, sad and funny. My only real criticism would be, it does feel that the story ends just a little abruptly.

This is one of the best stories I have read from a debut author she made it seem like she has been doing it for years. this isn't a light fluffy romance it's written with a meaty intelligent substance that I really liked and enjoyed and that kept me turning the pages. I just would have liked a more detailed and satisfying epilogue to round the story off more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge debut novel!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 30, 2020
Oh wow, a really great romantic tale with the required happy ending. However, it also deals with the hugely sensitive topic of the death of a young son, and its debilitating nature, in a sensitive and sypathetic way. Some may be disturbed by it, it had me close to tears on a few occasions, but the author never took it too far or belaboured it in order to wring out every last drop of emotion. There are very strong sex scenes, again not to everyon'es taste but all consensual and given more meaning in the light of the sensitive topic interwoven throughout the story.

All in all, a very good read from an author well worth following further.
