- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2018Another excellent book by Ashley. I started reading this afternoon and couldn't put it down. It really opened my eyes to what a drug addict is up against and what it does to their lives and everyone around them. This is an excellent book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2017This story isn’t an easy read. The author writes a bare bones, honest and hard to take look into the painful lure and eventual fall to the call of drugs.
Callie is a rising track star. Her future is bright and she has exciting plans. But fate intervenes. And when she loses her brother and father to a car accident her world comes crashing down.
Not strong enough to handle her grief, Callie chooses drugs to numb her pain. And thus begins a long painful journey as the girl with with everything going for her slides to the rocky bottom.
Drug addiction is ugly. Loved ones become someone else. And as the drugs tighten their grip, they’re led to do despicable things to get more drugs. The love of their family and friends turns to anger and disgust.
Ruined Wings should be required reading in schools, for students and their parents. I used to look at those addicted to drugs as lost causes. Not having known them before the drugs stole their lives, I didn’t realize how quickly anyone could become hooked.
Ashley Fontainne takes you through it step by painful step. She doesn’t try to paint a pretty happy ending. I wanted to hug Callie. Tell her everything would be okay. But only Callie could save herself.
Thanks for shaking me up and opening my eyes, Ashley.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2018Tough story to read in parts, about how easy it could be for someone to turn to drugs when tragedy hits their lives. The story was good, but wish it had shown more of the supporting characters. Something was just missing for me, but still a good story.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2018My goodness! I feel as though I've read a different book than other reviewers. In the first few pages, I was wondering if I had picked up a book for young adults. When I finally made it to the end (because it takes a lot to make me give up on a book), I chuckled when I read the About the Author Section and read this, "Ashley became a fan of the written word in her youth, starting with the Nancy Drew mystery series." Yes...it seems true.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2017This is a fast read! So sad but also hopeful. I have never known anyone who has dealt with this so it was interesting to learn how this can happen so easily.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2016Callie Novak is a track star and lives a good life, until one night when her world comes tumbling down! Her father and twin brother are killed in a car accident and when the truth comes out about the fact that her brother was driving while under the influence of drugs, it hits her hard. Digging into her brothers life, she finds that he was a drug addict, she realises that she knew the signs but with her busy life, she just didn't want to believe it. Now it's too late!
But Callie's life is about to spiral into the realm that her brother took and she can't seem to stop it. Things hit rock bottom for her and her life disintegrates, how can she find the strength to do what her brother couldn't? Will she face her greatest fear and admit she has a problem?
This was such a heartbreaking read. It deals with the harsh reality of drugs and the level addicts will go to to get their next fix. It's raw, it's gritty but it's also happening every day to someone. It's a hard book to read if you know someone dealing with any kind of addiction, but it's also a much needed one too. It gives a little glimmer of hope in the midst of darkness and shows that not all is necessarily lost.
As always, Ashley Fontainne knows how to tell a great story filled with emotion and one that will grip you till the very end. She has an amazing ability of making you immersed into all her books and this is no different. This book is a compelling, heartbreaking read and one that will stay with me for a long time!
I haven't listened to a book narrated by Andrea Emmes in a while and it reminded me what I was missing!! She has such an easy to listen to voice and can bring any book to life. You can tell that this book moved her too by her emotions while reading it. Definitely worth a listen!!
