About the author
Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she became a writer. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds – something that influences her writing.
Her trademark is writing deeply emotional, closed-door romances, often with international settings and/or multicultural couples. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Apart from her contemporary and paranormal romance novels, she has co-written a romantic suspense book series with Mike Wells.
What Devika loves most about being an author is creating new worlds and sending her protagonists on a journey with ups and downs that leaves them changed. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or thinking about writing, eating too much chocolate, taking nature photographs, and playing with her cat and dogs.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2016I have always pitied the trials of anyone who steps into the role of being a princess.
I can only imagine the outrage of a queen when her son goes to a tropical island in search of his sister and returns with a young woman of dubious birth and the wrong colored skin. Only thinly veiled contempt is made in public and when in private the claws come out.
Then there is the media…constant and brutal. Wounds cannot heal in a battlefield. Nope, I would never be a princess.
The first half of the story in which Christian and Marie dance a slow tune to love is full of caution, back steps and doubts. Christian is cautious since he’s a prince and will someday be king. Marie, thankfully doesn’t know that at first, or she probably would have run, given her father abandoned her pregnant mother, without marrying her, and ran back to England, never to be heard of again.
Only after they’ve both fallen in love does Marie discover how hard this is going to be.
I loved this story. The author carefully constructed a realistic story, with amazing detail and genuine feelings for all her characters. And her ability to create true love between her characters without resorting to sex is masterful. Yes, they do have sex later, but first they truly fall in love.
5 stars! It will entice you, alarm you, anger you, upset you, and bring you harmony and love. Not at the same time, but you will incur all those emotions and more. And, quite possibly be chomping at the bit for the next book. (I know I am.)
I received an ARC for an honest review, but then I bought it for my kindle as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2017Disclaimer: I bought a copy of this book
I am reading Ms. Fernando's work after a long time. I always had a feeling that her writing caters to YA novels but with this series of Royal Romance, she has certainly proved me wrong.
The Starting Phase:
Every romance reader reads a romance novel for one thing only - the 'good feel' feeling that remains even after you close the book. Ms. Fernando's romance has that. Now who wouldn't want to be a Cinderella of their own love story? But here Marie is not a damsel in distress where the knight in the shining armor comes to the rescue. She stands out as a very strong woman who loves her identity. This makes me want to connect with Marie - for the days of a damsel in distress are gone.
The Princely attitudes:
While writing a romance series and that too of a make believe Prince - not only does a writer create believable characters but also the world where the Prince will rule supreme. The alpha hero who escapes all those swooning ladies, only to be caught up by the bluntly-spoken, tomboyish yet beautiful (read that as someone who does not know how beautiful she is) ordinary girl.
Both Christian and Marie did justice to their respective role.
The ambiance:
Was created by Christian's sister, Olivia. I really liked this character a lot and a little birdie told me that she makes an appearance in the series later. I am looking forward to reading the love story of Olivia. Once you read this book, you will know why :) Her beauty and grace will leave a mark on the reader.
What I loved about this book:
1. The total royal ambiance.
2. The chemistry between Marie and Christian.
3. The struggle between falling in love and duty.
4. The matchmaker :)
What I needed more from this book:
A few scenes I think the writer could have done without and a bit tighter editing. Not much. Just a bit :) Looking forward to reading the whole series now.
Would I recommend this book:
A must read for all romance readers.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2019Love, loved this story and the characters. Well not everyone believes in fairy tales but most times life`s journey turns out to be a fairy take. You gotta suffer hardships to make you into the person you are. It either makes you stronger or breaks you. I liked the journey, the struggle and I could very much picture the place in this story for it definitely somewhat help me picture the potential of my home island!😊Would definitely recommend reading this book to anyone!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2016"Even during the fitful bouts of sleep, her mind had been filled with a suave, secretive seducer in a princely uniform who spoke endearments in an unknown language and caressed her body in all the right ways." (Loc. 1201-1203)
For today’s post I wrote a book review for author Devika Fernando’s first book in the Royal Romance series, The Prince’s Special Bride. Before I start, I just want to warn you that the novel triggered some mixed feeling inside me, so bear in mind that there will be also some negative aspects I will outline from an honest reader’s point of view. If you have different opinions, at least respect mine.
Marie Kemei works as a night manager at a resort on Kuramathi Island, in the Maldives, but her life is about to change drastically when she finds Olivia, the runaway Crown Princess of Taragonia. She was hiding from her family because they were forcing her to enter an arranged marriage with the Crown Prince of Visteria. If this wasn’t bad enough, Crown Prince Christian of Taragonia, Liv’s brother, shows up and the salty air becomes heavier with mutual attraction between Marie and Christian. Later on, Princess Olivia arranges a trip for Marie to come to Taragonia to assist the future bride as a dear friend and bride’s maid, but this also means that Christian and Marie will meet again. How will this modern Cinderella adapt to royal life in order to find her ‘happily ever after’ by Prince Christian’s side?

5.0 out of 5 stars How to become a Princess
What I loved most about this Love Story? The Heroine is neither blonde, blue-eyed nor white-skinned. That is so special when reading a love story set in european royalty.
Meet Marie, a typical hard-working manager at a tropical Resort who meets and befriends Olivia. Unknowingly Olivia is there to experience normal life before returning to her official role as Princess and soon to be married off into a marriage of convenience.
The two Women form a strong friendship and Marie is invited to Olivias Wedding.
Meet Christian the dashing Crown Prince who is tempted and falls in love. Follow their way through obstacles to furious climax.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story with strong characters
We all love a fairytale romance with a great plot and this book has it all, it flows so well and is a definite page turner. Love the believable main characters, especially Marie the female protagonist who comes across as a strong independent woman who can certainly take care of herself. This is the first book in Devika Fernando’s Royal Romance series I’ve already purchase the next book “The Princes’s Stubborn Bride” and will be definitely purchasing more. This books can be read as a stand-alone. I would highly recommend the book it’s a super romance, Devika is a very accomplished writer and I look forward in reading more of her work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Larger than life setting blended with real life values
Out of all the 'Romancing the Royal's Book series', this one was the best.
It had all the shades of conflicts-very unique and interesting. Marie is courageous and indeed special. And prince is really royal and handsome. I loved the characterization of both the lead pair.
I would recommend the series to all romance lovers who want a larger than life setting blended with real life values.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice read
Maybe a tad too much detailing to take the feeling away from reading a love story.. but good, enjoyable plot..
