About the author
Tory Allyn currently resides in Upstate New York. Although born in Syracuse, he was raised in the quaint town of Baldwinsville with his brother and two sisters, who drove him into becoming the zany person he is today. As a child, he made up many a tale. Some funny; others dark and brooding, but all started him on the path to writing. Today, his nephew, lovingly referred to as 'The Monster Child', is his partner in crime. Most days, you will see them playing ball at a nearby park, going for a dip in the backyard pool or snowboarding down a popular mountainside.
Tory has written his first novel, ALTER EGO. He completed a second novel, ALTER BOYS. His third novel, ALTER GIRLS, is in the editing stage. ALTER BOUND will be last. All four are a series entitled, THE DAVENPORT DECREES.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2016"In layman's terms, I said that the three victims were injected in the carotid artery. I showed it to you in the morgue. It caused a chemokinesis, which is the accelerated locomotion of cells due to the response of chemical stimuli. Basically, the cells in the body went berserk. They reacted against the foreign agent in a dramatic way, thus causing a cytomorphosis. It's an extreme metamorphosing of the body."
"So what you're saying is that the chemical compounds caused our guys to turn into she-males?"
"What I'm saying is once the chemical compounds were introduced into their bodies they initiated a metamorphosing affect, causing a male to female alteration, thus the appearance of both characteristics. Somewhere, in the process of morphing they died, not systematically bearing the exchange."
After being sent to Rockfort, Virginia, FBI Agent Jack Stanwick finds himself having to deal with the third victim that had been found dead under some truly strange circumstances. It seems that all three men were in the process of changing into women prior to their deaths. Things get worse when reporter Simone Wellington publishes an article that the Governor of Virginia's son is missing and there may be a connection. Someone is feeding her information that must be stopped.
This has to be one of the most unusual books I've ever read... yes that's good. I've read MANY books but Author Tory Allyn writes in a fashion that I've never had the pleasure of enjoying before. The book was very interesting and took me on a ride but what Allyn does that is so different are the 'conversations' that are carried on with the different characters. Normally you will find the characters stating what they want to say and the writer goes on to the next scene. Not Allyn. His conversations are exactly that. They talk to each other just as you and I would. It gives each character a true personality and a little history as to why they are the way they are. I loved it!!! And the story too. I also loved that it closed with another story in the works which I'm looking forward to reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2016Can't believe I read it all the way through. As I got into the story I began noticing the writing style which interfered with the story. Oh, my goodness. I can't believe the five-star reviews. Am I the only one who noticed the weird stuff? The ending was weird and definitely not satisfying. Sorry I wasted my time.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2018The chemical experiments on the victims in Alter Ego by Tory Allyn make for a truly original and distinctive thriller. The bodies have both male and female characteristics. How that comes about is fascinating, particularly in the way Allyn deftly plots the story, revealing bits through the FBI investigation led by Special Agent Jack Stanwick. Stanwick enlists help of reporter Simone Wellington and investigator Raymond Davenport, with his sidekicks Bren, Derek, and Russ. But even as they uncover the unseemly elements of the deaths, Allyn also gives the perspective of a quartet of bad guys, ranging from Logan (the Speaker of the House of Representatives) to Henry Prescott (who runs much of the chemical operation), Buford (the scientist in the charge of the experiments), and Arvin (the muscle of the operation). As with the cadre of good guys, these villains are well-developed and prone to funny exchanges.
Presented in a compelling way, the motives and methods of these experiments are teasingly revealed. Allyn explains the science behind the experiments well and his knowledge of DNA, physiology, and DNA is quite impressive. Without giving away too much of the plot, the experiments delve deeply into the botany of the Amazon and ostensibly seeks to create an environmentally safe pesticide.
What makes the story so engaging is Allyn’s depiction of the characters: the romance between Simone and Jack serves a healthy counterweight to all of the toxic machinations central to the story. Plus the jocular repartee among Derek, Bren, and Russ leaven the intense climax. In fact, Allyn’s sense of play informs the serious undercurrents of Alter Ego. The opening of Chapter Nine features an alphabetically alliterative run, featuring sentences like, “Constant clashes of caterwauling and clattering chatter cursedly continued while distressed damsels demanded their designated dining destination.”
The fun, shenanigans, and the novel’s darker elements reverberate off each other right up to the concluding section – one that has more than its share of surprises. The ending points to the next installment of this rich and riveting series.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2019In the backwoods of Virginia, a body is found. The Governor's son s missing, could it be him? FB Agent Jack Stanwick is assigned to the case. This is a shocking and surprising investigation of scientific attempts to change humans into multi-sex appearance. This story did not please me too much. It slows down, scenes are too often duplicated, and a better proofreading may improve it.
