The Good Thief Kindle Edition

Two days before Christmas, shy bookstore owner Scotlyn Carter survived a traumatic bank robbery and subsequent kidnapping. Now, three months later, she still wakes up hearing the robber’s promise to find her—and kill her.

Then James McIntyre, the high school flame whose easy smile and mysterious eyes she could never forget, walks back into her life. As she falls for him once again, Scotlyn slowly begins to feel safe for the first time in a long time and thinks that maybe her nightmare will not come true, after all.

But James is not all that he seems. He is back in Scotlyn’s life for a reason and has been in contact with the very thieves who kidnapped her. And he’s harboring a dark secret that, if brought to light, could not only destroy their relationship—it could end their very lives.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Well-written, with interesting characters, a strong plot, and plenty of tension. You just can't help rooting for Scotlyn and hoping that James doesn't turn out to be a scumbag. A good book for a rainy afternoon and a hot cup of tea." ~ Taylor Jones, Reviewer

"The Good Thief is a solid romantic suspense, with a complicated and interesting plot, intriguing characters, and plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes. A great read." ~ Reagan Murphy, Reviewer

About the Author

Tanya W. Newman was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina, where she discovered her love of a good story, and where she decided to try to write a book of her own at the age of ten. When she was finished, the story was a whopping thirty pages, but nonetheless cemented her love of writing and storytelling, a love that led to a Bachelor of Arts in English from University of South Carolina Upstate, and a Master of Arts in English from Clemson University. She has continued through her work as a college instructor and Library Specialist.

Now married to her wonderful husband, Mark, for ten years, Newman still resides in Upstate South Carolina, where she sets many of her stories. When not indulging in writing or reading, she enjoys a good cup of coffee; watching movies (usually an action/adventure with a love story added in) or reruns of The Golden Girls; going for long walks; and spending time playing with, snuggling, and reading to her adorable son and daughter.

I’ve loved reading and stories for as long as I can remember. At the age of ten, I decided to write a book of my own. When finished, the story was an epic thirty pages, complete with a cover I drew myself. It led to countless other stories, mostly about horses and riding. Over time, romantic relationships became a theme in my work, and later, a little crime fiction began finding its way in there. Readers have described my work as romantic, mysterious, poignant, and heartbreaking yet heartwarming. I’m grateful to have discovered my passion so young, and to be able to do it and give the world what I’ve created.

As the years passed, I completed BA and MA degrees in English, taking every creative writing class I could. In between years of teaching writing and raising my family, I have published short stories with Gadfly Online, TWJ, The Fictional Cafe, and Writing in a Woman’s Voice. I have three novels as well: The Good Thief (2016), Winter Rain (2017), and Brilliant Disguise (2024).

I live in upstate South Carolina with my husband, son, daughter, 2 cats, and Labrador/Coonhound mix, and where I set many of my stories. When not writing or serving as professional maid, laundress, chauffeur, or homework tutor (hubby handles bulk of the cooking!), I love a good cup of coffee, action/adventure movies with a good love story added in, reruns of The Golden Girls, the music of U2, long jogs, and traveling with family–our latest big adventure landed us in Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.

Take a look around and leave me a comment if you like! I hope you find a story that draws you in, a character you want to follow, or somewhere to steal away in my work.

I loved this book! It is romantic, mysterious, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You will definitely see yourself in one of Tanya Newman's characters. Lord knows I could really relate to Scotlyn, the story's protagonist. If you are looking to spice up your reading and escape, this book is for you. LOOVED IT!

In Newman’s “The Good Thief” the author does a satisfying job of spending adequate time helping the reader relate to each character. I found myself laughing out at particular actions of characters like George, Scotlyn’s father when he says “Ain’t gonna have a stranger messin’ around my house”, and “seeing” my own father behave in the same way. After a good foundation on character development the book quickly becomes a romance that brings readers back to reminiscing about that “first” love. In conjunction to the all most too good to be true romance, readers are taken on a heart stopping roller coaster ride when Scotyln is found back at the mercy of not- so- good thieves. Captivating quick read where the ending will leave you antsy for a sequel.
