Sanguinary (Night Shift Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 82 ratings

Detective Cami Davis and her sexy, cowboy-turned-vampire informant are all that’s standing between humanity and monsters who would rule the world—and all that’s standing between them having a torrid love affair is the fact that he’s an enemy of humanity.

THROUGH DARKEST TEMPTATION

When Dallas police detective Cami Davis joined the city’s vampire unit, she planned to use the job as a stepping-stone to a better position in the department. She didn’t know then what she knows now: A silent war rages between humans and their supposedly pacified predators, and the vampires are winning. With the clock running out on her kind, Cami will do whatever she must to defeat the “Sanguinary.”

Enter Reese Fulton, a disaffected ex-cop and a vampire. She can’t exactly trust him, but with his cowboy boots and good-ole-boy drawl he’s the perfect beard for Cami’s fledgling undercover operation. Yet playing Reese’s Claimed—a vampire’s personal bloodgiver—isn’t as straightforward as she was led to believe. His bite is as enthralling as his dimpled smile, and soon Cami is wondering which will pose more of a challenge: subduing the enemies of humanity...or her own desire.

USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times bestselling author Margo Bond Collins is a former college English professor who, tired of explaining the difference between "hanged" and "hung," turned to writing romance novels instead. Okay, this book is good...really really good. The author's world building is excellent, and spurns me to consider fan fiction, just cause I want to write a story in this vampire world - you have to read Bound by Blood, too to get a real feel for the world that the author is making. The mystery in the story is very well done. If you're looking for Dark Paranormal Fantasy, this one will be right up your alley (Content Warning: Because I read mostly clean fiction, I have to put an "R" rating on this one for Language, Graphic Violence, and Sexual Situations.)

Was much better than I expected after reading some of the other reviews. I can see how not everyone would like this book thou ghost. You don't really get too deep into how Cami is as a person, just that she hates vampires.and had been bitten by one. We never really find out exactly what happened there, and we really don't find out anything about the good vampire and what little we do I won't say so I don't ruin it for anyone, but still it all worked for me. It was a really fast read and a fast moving book. I thought it as written pretty well actually. I did find one typo but it was just a missing letter so much better than a lot of the books out in kindle nowadays. I probably will read book two if there is one because I want to know more about where they went! So all in all an exciting fast read if you don't want to get into a really involved book and want action and a bit of mystery too. Worth reading if you like voice stories.

Wow!! I was sucked into this book from the beginning and couldn't stop reading. The story is fantastic and the characters are wonderful. I love the tension between Cami and Reese. This is the second book that I read that was recommended by one of my favorite authors and I am so glad she brought Margo Bond Collins to my attention. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

It seems that I cannot get enough of this writer. Usually when you cross series of an author, you find similarities in the storyline and evolvement of characters. But I find this not to be the case. Another Texas story...vampires and those who police the powerful...undercover ops...love, could it be?

Sanguinary has a unique perspective on vampires being from another non-earth origin. Vamp kills are showing up with blue lights shooting out of them. The main, Cami, is a detective going undercover to discover why how what is going on with the killings. She teams up with a cowboy vampire who is yummy.

I like detective stories and I like vampire stories. Mix them up and you got me interested.

Like one of the Night Shift novels, it seems like the end is a cliffhanger. But not really. Read a few, you will know what I am saying.

Is it possible to have too many vampire stories? SANGUINARY shows there is room for one more. Cops with stakes and vampires intent on ruling--only problem is that love is stronger than blood. A nicely written vampire cop romance.

The beginning of this story we see a hardness in Cami because of the cases she has seen. We see her trying to help mankind without knowing how deep the danger goes. When she see the murders taking place the only way she can solve it is with the help of vampire Reese. Reese is an unknown character and even through the story we don't really get to know him. The author gives us some background but with Cami's doubts we don't fully trust him. I think that's the start of my mixed feelings on this story. I so wanted to believe in Reese even when we saw him doing good I never really got over that bump. The romance came and gone with the claiming and that left a hole to especially with me being a fan of Reese. The epilogue left so many things hanging that it didn't endear the story to me at all. Sorry for me though 3 is all I can muster to give.

This was another easy read from Margo. In this new series, Cami is a detective who goes undercover with a vampire, Reese, to solve a case of ritualistic murders. The pacing was very fast, and Cami and Reese were very likable. The romance (or, what little of it existed in this novel) wasn't overdone, either.

I'll definitely keep up with this series!
