Origins of the Outbreak Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 75 ratings

Every epidemic begins with a relatively small group of people who’ve been exposed to an illness. The Centers for Disease Control believes that it is imperative to reach the site of an initial outbreak as quickly as possible in order to prevent further spread of the disease. Sometimes that isn’t always possible and events reach a catastrophic tipping point before the government can organize a response.

Origins of the Outbreak follows the chain of infection from one person to another after a university researcher in a small Texas town unwittingly develops an disease that turns its victims into zombies and threatens to destroy the world as we know it.

Told as a series of short stories from the perspective of each victim as they experience their own version of hell while struggling to survive, Origins of the Outbreak will leave you gasping in fear.

About the Author

A veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Brian Parker was born and raised as an Army brat. He's currently an Active Duty Army soldier who enjoys spending time with his family in Texas, hiking, obstacle course racing, writing and Texas Longhorns football. He's an unashamed Star Wars fan, but prefers to disregard the entire Episode I and II debacle.

Brian is both a traditionally- and self-published author with an ever-growing collection of works across multiple genres, including sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, horror, paranormal thriller, military fiction, self-publishing how-to and even a children's picture book--
Zombie in the Basement, which he wrote to help children overcome the perceived stigma of being different than others.

He is also the founder of Muddy Boots Press, an independent publishing company that focuses on quality genre fiction over mass-produced books.

What a fun read, if it fun to see patient zero spread a zombie plague. Author Brian Parker tells the story with each chapter showing a snippet of the spread of the disease from one characters point of view. It is a dark tale... Hey it's the beginning of the end! It is supposed to be dark. Parker weaves the story from its start on a small college campus and the spread through central Texas. His descriptions are graphic and gruesome. Just what I want in a zombie novel. He is a good writer and has written a sweet treat and quick reading tale that has plenty of action to keep you engaged and turning the page.
Definitely worth the time and money! As Joe Bob says, Five stars, Check it out!
Parker is also the author of several novels and has been signed by Permuted Press to publish his Enduring Armageddon trilogy GNASH, REND, and SEVER; STARTING IN February 2016.

This book as it says follows the chain of infection from a college lab in Texas of the "Zombie" virus. Pretty graphic in some spots. However the story-line is developed, but the characters you don't get to know in this type of story. The short time you are with each you will either hate or like the person. Victim zero is a character that you do get to know. I personally did not like him as he was rude and abrasive, but I did feel bad for him.

Overall I did like this book. It followed the spread and makes you realize how interconnected we can be with people that we truly do not know. I generally don't like this style of book tho. I love watching as characters develop and grow and you really don't get that with this book. I do recommend this book for people who like zpoc stories and wants a break from the traditional.

BP has written a story line that shows an alleged scientist attempting to make a vaccine for cancer. During the testing he becomes infected then starts to attack students at the college where he worked. Then the author uses this theme and present each person feeling about the zombies. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER

I've read 6 Roads to Texas and love that series. All of those authors did a bang-up job. The different viewpoints for this book was very good. Really liked the bull story. If you enjoy zombie stories half as much as I do, read it!

I am not one to write reviews but I had to with this book! I love zombies and was worried this book would not give me my zombie fix but it did better! It gave me a new side to the zombie story! It was a nice change of pace to see exactly how it started and spread. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves zombies!!

The author is very capable of building a back story for the characters in the book, but I felt no connection to any of them. I wanted to have the author check in on those that survived throughout the story. The story needed someone to cheer for, and all you got was a short paragraph wrap up at the end.

It was a good read but i prefer to have a few more survivors in my zombie stories. This was a little depressing for me.

Interesting take on the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. Each chapter is a short story showing how the infection is passed from one person to the next. I liked the stories and the way they were formatted.

5.0 out of 5 stars A zombie book that finally focuses on what matters... ...the zombie!

This was a fun book devoured one snowy Sunday afternoon/evening. For me this was a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse.
It starts with patient zero and focuses on the spread of the infection through short fun chapters. There are no chainsaw wielding, chiseled jaw, heros here, if there where, it most likely wouldn’t end well for them!
No one wakes up in a hospital bed here wondering what happened to the world. Rather you will find new character being introduced to reoccurring infected who are intent on doing their bit in a zombie virus “pay it forward” scheme. Like I said for me a nice refreshing take on the genre.

The short well written chapter where thoroughly enjoyable and had me wondering allowed “So how’s this one’s going to get it?” And every now and then when a character “didn’t get it”, that was quite nice too!
