Erin Sellers, an eighteen-year-old high school senior, hates teen drinking. She and her three friends – Bill, her guy, Shari and Jake - decide to use Twitter to stop a group, the Kewl Krew, from using their high school as the local bar. But the members of this group are just as determined to stop anyone from messing up their fun. Despite veiled threats to her safety, Erin continues her crusade.
To make matters worse for her, the stress of school and extra curricular work mounts and suddenly, shockingly, booze-fuelled tragedy strikes. Erin is now under greater pressure as she spends all hours to produce a mural and other work to commemorate the death of a teen friend. Bill, Jake and Shari support her in all this...
But more tragedy lurks nearby… until it’s time to softly say goodbye.

“I have a secret… a very special secret. Perhaps you’ve heard this one before… from the time I was a child, I wanted to write stories for people to read. “ K.C. Sprayberry

Former California native, K.C. Sprayberry traveled the U.S. and Europe before finally settling in the mountains of Northwest Georgia. She’s been married to her soulmate for more than a quarter of a century and they enjoy spoiling their grandchildren along with many other activities.

Inspiration strikes at the weirdest times and drives her to grab notebook and pen to jot down her ideas. Those close to her swear nothing or no one is safe if she’s smiling gently in a corner and watching those in the same room interact. Her observations have often given her ideas for her next story, set not only in the South but wherever the characters demand they settle.

`Softly Say Goodbye' introduces young adult readers to several incredible characters and one huge dilemma, underage drinking.
When a group of high school students, known as the Kewl Krew, begin filling their water bottles with alcohol, everyone seems to be turning their backs. Other students fear retaliation for ratting out the offenders and teachers seem to be ignoring the growing problem.
One high school senior isn't afraid to share the facts with anyone who will listen. Erin Sellers begins to use the internet and a Twitter account to send anonymous messages to the school officials. She encourages several friends to do the same. Erin is a strong heroine whose mad artistic skills and stubborn determination keep her head above the water. Well, that and her incredibly sweet, football player boyfriend, Bill Lomax.
Tension begins to grow as the seniors start facing their end of the year finals and Bill's father is released from prison. Mr. Lomax doesn't see a problem with feeding alcohol to under age minors. He doesn't even stop once tragedy strikes and one drunken student is involved in a fatal car crash. Erin and her friends increase her efforts to stop their peers before another death occurs, but when the Kewl Krew learns who is behind the mysterious Twitter posts, Erin, Bill, and all of their close friends become targets. Who will survive and who will fall?
KC Sprayberry is a strong writer who brings her characters to life with ease. The subject of underage drinking is a difficult matter to broach and to convey to teens. However, this author does just that and she keeps the wording on a young adult level. The information is presented in the form of a romantic suspense and does not come across as preaching or reprimanding.
While delightful to read, it's recommended to keep a box of Kleenex close at hand as you might need to say goodbye more than once in this story.

Erin Sellers, a senior at Landry High School, has the normal stresses of any Georgia graduating student. She has End of Course Exams (EOCs) to worry about as well as a state graduation test. But now, Mr. Janks, her favorite teacher, expects his students to perform an art EOC by painting murals around the community in an effort to clean up a drab downtown area.

Erin enlists her friends--boyfriend Bill, BFFs Shari and Tiana, and a few others to help with the task of painting the murals she's planning for the Recreation Center. Along the way they bump heads with the Kewl Krew, a group of teen drunks.

The Kewl Krew breeze through their daily high school routine drunk from the contents of their Landry High School water bottles. This infuriates Erin, a girl affected by the behavior of her boyfriend's father, a drunk doing time in prison. With the help of her own crew, they plan to foil the Kewl Krew's domination of the high school in an effort to make drinking booze a very uncool act.

KC Sprayberry brings us Softly Say Goodbye, a young adult novel about the horrendous effects of alcohol on teens. Using first person present tense, Sprayberry brings home the urgency of teen alcoholism. The eye-opening message is simple--teen drinking must stop and it is up to teens, parents, and loved ones to put an end to it before someone gets hurt or worse.

I strongly suggest Softly Say Goodbye to be on the reading list of all high school students, their parents, and anyone else concerned with drinking and driving.

[Warning: Don't read Softly Say Goodbye without a box of tissues nearby.]

Can you believe it? Kids in high school are actually... gasp...drinking! I felt this story was just a little too naive. Kids in our local high schools are toking up between classes and drinking is assumed. Yet, despite that flaw, it does show some of the problems that come with drinking and especially the sorrow around drinking and driving. I can't recommend it highly because of that naive feel throughout, but it may be good for younger teens who haven't been fully inaugurated into the high school world.

K.C Sprayberry is a multi-genre author who comes up with ideas from the strangest sources. Some of her short stories have appeared in anthologies, others in magazines. Softly Say Goodbye, Take Chances, Lost & Scared, Inits, Where U @, Canoples Investigations Tackles Space Pirates, Canoples Investigations Versus Spacers Rule, Paradox Lost: Their Path, The Curse of Grungy Gulley, Evil Eyes, The Wrong One, and Softly Say Goodbye are international best sellers. Who Am I? (a YA novella) is another international best seller.

The author created a book about teen drinking and focused on emotions. Softly Say Goodbye is a sad story, a love story nicely told. Readers of all ages will reconsider many things.

I will never forget Erin, Shari, Tiana, Bill, Jake and Tuck. I liked the characters and hoped they would overcome everything.
When teens drink and drive…when teens need their families…when teens think they can do anything…

    Cover: Beautiful.

    Readability: Descriptive writing, rich vocabulary.

Messages: You have to take each day one step at a time.

    Originality: *****

In ten years: I will reread Softly Say Goodbye.

I love reading YA literature, and I love reading about teens who aren't in trouble wit the law, who don't live in a foster home, and who don't have a parole officer, and best of all, who aren't vampires. Erin, the heroine of the story is a kid like I was only with a lot more guts, a kid who would take on teen drinking. But I was taken completely off-guard when tragedy struck and left crying, "No! It can't be!" Softly Say Goodbye is a story for all teens, a story that will bring you to tears, yet make you laugh out loud. Thank you K.C. Sprayberry

I truly believe that every parent with a teen ready to drive should make them read this book before they take their test. It's a heart breaking story but so very true among today's teens.
