The Last Stand -- Blood War Trilogy Book III Kindle Edition

3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

After six centuries of brutal conflict a fragile peace now exists between vampires and werewolves. United in the goal of culling the hybrid bloodline, combined raids by both species sweep the globe. Scattered and in disarray, hybrids are forced into Europe to make a last desperate stand for survival.

Tamara Wyatt, a high-ranking hybrid commander, barely escapes with her life after an ambush by werewolves in the Ukraine. Rendezvousing with the remaining clans, she discovers sanctuary is hard to find even among her own kind. With the net closing tighter, Tamara must act quickly if she is to save not only her own life but that of the hybrid bloodline.

Six hundred years of callous blood-lust is not easily forgotten—the supernatural world is governed by lies, treachery, and hidden secrets. Markus, the oldest living vampire, has forged a truce with the pack’s Alpha-Male, Isaac, but has done so at a high price. And already weakened by hatred and betrayal, the ceasefire’s delicate foundations are about to crumble under the most shocking secret of them all.

The only bad thing to say about book 3 is that it had to end. This final book of the trilogy does not disappoint and there's no let down whatsoever. If by the time you've finished book 2 you haven't chosen a side,...you'd best do so before starting this book.
You'll find yourself almost hoping that both sides could co-exist,...almost.

An excellent book written by an outstanding author. All three books were captivating and I had a hard time putting them down. Treachery Loyalty were absolutely intertwined in the books. Excellent

The Trilogy has come to an end... and I have to say that I am sad to have reached the end. Dylan Morgan is one of the best writers that I have come across in a long time. He appeals to me on so many levels. Often times we pick up a book and while the story is good, the writing is flat. I can assure you, without hesitation, there is nothing flat about this author's writing! We don't have a rating for "OMG this blew me away!". But that's my rating of this series.

Book three doesn't pick up exactly where it left off in book two. We eventually get around to that story but we get through some other things first. Try as I may, I was unable to find anything about the first two books that annoyed me...bothered me... confused me (and trust me, it's not hard to confuse me sometimes!)... and I came up with a big fat ZERO! I'm not sure I can say I am glad I found something in this book... but there were two things:

    1. You have to dig through a lot of the story to figure out what kind of timeline we are working with. In book one the chapters are dated, so there is no doubt what time period you are in. In book two we know that we are in the present day (modern times...whatever). In book three I just surmised that the stories were happening right after the events of book two (does that make any sense?). In book two we are given a story about Anton, and I just guessed that the story we came to first in book three about Anton picked up or happened right after that story (hopefully that clears it up)... like book two happened yesterday and book three is about today (I should stop while I'm ahead here). It's not until we reach the story that continues with the end of book two that I realized, "Hey, we are like 15 years down the road! Where the heck have I been?". But, my inability to pick that out or put it together doesn't mean the author doesn't put it out there before I picked up on it. But I did go back to several earlier chapters to see if I could figure it out...and I still didn't see it. And even though I am calling this a "negative" thing... it doesn't take anything away from the book as a whole. It doesn't ruin the experience. As a matter of fact, the timeline really isn't important to the story because we know the war has gone on for centuries and will probably continue to go on for centuries.

    2. The story that ended book two... I didn't get the closure... no that's not really the best word... I didn't get the explanation I really wanted to explain what happened to her. Was she always that way and it's just something that "came out"..something that was dormant in her? Was it because of what happened in the park (in book two of course)? I sort of wrote my own explanation in my head and maybe it was left that way on purpose. Or maybe I'm not as observant as I like to think I am?!

Now, I don't normally list things out like that, but trust me I tried to write them into this without listing and it just didn't turn out right. So you got a list.

Overall I LOVED this series! Despite my "negatives", I still give it 5 stars; because in the big scheme of things they don't matter. Just my unusual ramblings. And I have to add that Dylan Morgan is a super nice guy! We are working on getting him to The Bookie Monster for an interview and hope to have more reviews of his books in the future! I highly recommend this series to lovers of vampires and werewolves....but not the sparkly/cuddly kind... if you want the ruthless killing kind... definitely the series for you!

'The Last Stand' is the concluding part to Morgan's Blood War Trilogy and tells the tale of a bloody and brutal war between supernatural species.

The first two books in this series were fast paced and gory and book three moves to a break-neck pace to keep you on the edge of your seat as you speed through the blood-spattered final battles in this suspenseful finale.

The satisfying ending leaves room for a possible continuation while at the same time tying up the loose ends. I honestly had no idea where the story was going to end up or even who was going to survive the carnage which just added to the horror and suspense!

All in all this is the perfect ending to a fantastic horror trilogy. Highly recommended to fans of horror and darker supernatural books!
