Tales2Inspire ~ The Emerald Collection: Beyond Coincidence Kindle Edition
Did you ever experience something that you felt couldn't have happened simply by coincidence - that perhaps an unknown force entered your life to take charge? Tales2Inspire ~ The Emerald Collection is filled with these kind of 'Beyond Coincidence' inspiring stories, written by winners of the Tales2Inspire global, annual writers' contest. Although often compared to the "Chicken Soup For the Soul" series, Tales2Inspire books offer two distinctive features that set them apart: Each book is gift sized, to keep pace with our contemporary fast paced life styles, and original photographs embedded in each story enhance the reader's experience.
The Emerald is the gemstone that symbolizes psychic powers and the promotion of self-knowledge, the ideal gem to represent this collection of 'Beyond Coincidence' stories.
In this collection you will be treated to stories such as:
. a lost dog who landed in a garden many miles from home at the very same moment the garden owner's husband meets up with its distraught woman, frantically searching for her beloved Aussie, many miles from her home.
. how through meeting a stranger in a German cemetery, this author learns the history of her heroic grandfather, who saved the lives of thousands of people while sacrificing his own
. when all attempts to save the life of a frozen newborn baby fail, one doctor gets inspiration during a quiet moment of meditation
. a lace tablecloth reunites an elderly couple, long separated - each now presuming the other one dead
. displaced following the atrocities of WW II, a young Polish couple meet with instant attraction, become separated, then unexpectedly rediscover one another many thousands of miles from home
. a baby born without legs, thanks to her adoption parents, never knows the word 'handicapped', but instead she becomes a word class aerialist
. two elephants who have never forgotten the love and devotion they felt for one another, and show it in remarkable ways
These are just a few of the inspiring stories that will warm your heart, uplift your spirits, and sometimes leave you gasping the single word, "unbelievable ".

Review
This is a book with a heart. Filled with stories which reveal what happens when we choose to live in a way that is life enhancing for all God's creatures. Our potential is miraculous when we choose to inspire the vapor of love. The people in these stories have always been my teachers. Read and learn the lessons of life.A READERS' FAVORITE REVIEW By Dinorah Blackman". . . An impressive collection of short stories that will blow your mind and warm your heart. . . . A pastor finds a beautiful embroidered table cloth at a charity sale and unexpectedly triggers a reunion between lovers who had lost touch for thirty-five years. A dying, frozen baby is miraculously restored through an unknown procedure and given a second chance at life. Two immigrants separated by war enter a clinic by "chance" . . . and meet again. And just like these, Tales2Inspire offers many true stories to prove that miracles still happen even today.
Lois W. Stern . . . allows each author to pour his or her heart into the story, granting the reader the chance to be swept up in each detail, as if one were really present to witness the account. Prepare for tears and laughter as you read how (others) have looked adversity in the eye and powered through. Or how love always makes a way for those who choose to believe in it. In a world where bad news travels fast and social networking is mostly about sharing reasons to lose hope in mankind, this collection of stories is a much-needed breath of fresh air."
From the Author
Each inspiring story accepted into this competition is vetted by three other authors, who give that tale a numeric score and at least one suggestion for improvement. Winners and Finalists are selected based on the aggregate of those three scores. The author then can use those suggestions (or not) to edit their stories in readiness for publication. Top scoring stories get published in print and e-book formats. But it doesn't stop there. Tales2Inspire™brings many additional platform building opportunities to these authors - too many to mention here. Watch the video: What's In It For You at the tales2inspire.com website.

About the authors
When I was 4 1/2 years old, I remember being sent to my room for a nap, but instead of resting, I practiced printing alphabet letters - all over my newly papered bedroom wall. What I most recall about that day was having to stand behind the dinette door, perched right next to my mother's old Singer Sewing Machine, until I apologized for my misbehavior. I couldn't understand why I was being punished for all my hard work, so I stood there for what seemed like hours, rather than offer up an apology. Fortunately this inauspicious beginning didn't dampen my enthusiasm for writing!
And I received a lot of encouragement along the way:
I was the first prizewinner of the senior essay contest at my high school. But it wasn't so much the award that thrilled me as my English teacher's inscription written inside the front cover of the leather bound edition of Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet presented to me that day:
"You are a talented and perceptive writer. You should consider pursuing a career that utilizes your special skills."
Fast forward to college. I didn't much love Economics, a required course with assigned readings that I frequently put aside in preference to my favorites: English, French and Sociology. I would cram furiously the night before each Economic test - memorizing just enough to squeak by. I think my professor thought me somewhat of a dimwit, expecting little from me and getting little in return.
Mid way though the course, this same Economics professor assigned a term paper that intrigued me - the first time I was motivated to do any real work for this class. I dug in and did my thing. Several weeks later, before returning our papers, he announced that he had several surprises while grading these papers.
“Some students whom I expected to do well, disappointed me, while others, for whom I held low expectations, did extraordinarily well,” he explained. I received an A along with an invitation to meet him in his office after class. His words are still indelibly imprinted in my memory.
"This is your special talent. I hope you will pursue a career in writing. It would be a shame for you to waste your abilities.”
I graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University, with a major in Sociological Research and married Ken, a Columbia student, about eight days later. We set off for New Haven, where Ken began his studies as a law student. I needed to put aside my author's dreams and find a way to support my student husband and myself. The state college nearest our apartment was offering an Intensive Teacher Training (ITT) program so I enrolled, and six weeks later - Bingo -I was a teacher, with provisional certification. I signed a contract, began teaching in Cheshire Conn., and continued to take evening and summer courses throughout the next three years until I earned a Master's Degree - just in the knick of time. I went into labor while typing the bibliography for my Master's thesis, and begged Ken to let me finish before setting off for the hospital!
After raising our family, I enrolled at Hofstra University on Long Island to work on a second Master's degree - this time with a specialization in Reading and Special Education. I taught for 21 more years and loved every moment of it. (Well, almost every moment - nothing is perfect!)
Before I retired, I told Ken, "I know what I want to do with the rest of my life. I want to write." He more or less humored me, taking the attitude, "If you're happy, I'm happy." I worked as co-editor of a Long Island web-zine for the next three years, where I initiated a column I named, "Ordinary People - Extraordinary Lives." While interviewing such a fascinating array of people in order to write their special stories, I discovered my passion for investigative journalism. And then I got to work on my first full length book, Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery, a work combining memoir and research, where my experiences while interviewing subjects for my Web-zine column further encouraged me to add aspects of journalism to my manuscript. Before I had completed this ambitious undertaking, I had conducted over 100 very candid interviews with men, women and professionals in the field , to deliver a work that has been described as “filled with humor and keen insight.”
It took me five years to complete Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery, which landed in the number one spot on the ASPS online bookstore, receiving rave reviews from plastic surgeons and lay people alike, across the USA and beyond. Then it jumped to the top of the charts when an article appeared on the front page of the Style Section of the Sunday edition of the NY Times, which devoted several paragraphs to this book. I was on a roll, signed with a NYC agent who was sure this book would be grabbed up by one of the major publishers. But it didn't. The rejections began to come in. "The author doesn't have a strong enough author platform," they said. To be honest, at the time, I didn’t even know the meaning of those words.
I took time to dust myself off and regroup, but as the old saying, "When one door shuts, another flies open." I began to think that there must be many talented writers out there, writers who aren’t being given a chance because they haven’t yet established name recognition. This little nugget of thought urged me to give birth to Tales2Inspire®, an “Authors Helping Authors” project/contest. My goals were (and still are) to continue to help each talented, yet perhaps unknown, writer strengthen their writing skills while building their author platforms. Forever a fan of inspiring true stories, I built Tales2Inspire® around this passion. The rest, as they say, is history, with twelve Tales2Inspire® published books and counting, and have now added ghostwriting to my list of passions.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2016Lois W Stern has collected a group of tales written by a fascinating group of authors that convey a sense of purpose, destiny, and reason for being. In the original edition of this book the author offered the following: ‘Is there really such a thing as coincidence, or could there be an unknown force, a higher power, taking charge? This is a question you are likely to ponder as you read the collection of heartwarming stories contained within the pages of this book. Although all are true, don’t be surprised if you find yourself saying “unbelievable” as you finish reading some, or simply getting a feel-good rush from others. Tales 2 Inspire ~ Beyond Coincidence: A collection of inspiring stories written by talented authors from across the globe. Each motivational, uplifting story is enhanced by the inclusion of original, full color photos and/or drawings, making this a treasured gift book at a most reasonable price.’
That states the joy and satisfaction every reader will feel after spending time with this book. Interestingly enough there is a story by Lois that is one of the highlights - the story of an adoption of a handicapped child and the reflections of that child as a young woman: ‘Luck shone down on this infant from the moment she entered the Bricker household. She felt the unconditional love of her parents and three older brothers, all with solid values that helped her grow into the remarkable person she is today. As a young woman reflecting back on her childhood, Jen says with admiration:“ They are amazing and they don’t even realize it. They are just good people. I don’t know how, but they always managed to handle each situation exactly the right way.” From early on the Brickers told Jen that there was no such word as can't. Instead they taught her how to go after the things she really wanted. With their guidance, Jen’s indomitable spirit and confidence soared. She vigorously dove into sports, meeting each challenge head on with confidence and theexpectation of success. More often than not, she realized her dreams. Jen led a happy, rewarding life, playing softball, basketball and volleyball. But her passion was gymnastics. When she was ten, she won fourth place in the Amateur Athletic Union's Junior Olympics in Hampton, Va., and was Illinois state power tumbling champion in her division…etc.’
Just a sample - but an indication of the quality of stories collected here. They restore belief, hops, and admiration for humanity. Grady Harp, April 16

I enjoyed reading every story!!
It’s incredible that every story in this book is true. The story, No Such Word As Can’t had a very special meaning for me. It is an amazing story about a very talented and lucky girl who gets adopted by a wonderful couple. Jen Bricker felt the unconditional love of her parents. They taught her to go after the things she really wanted with their guidance.
The photos of Jen and her family made it easy for me to get to know her and her family.
This amazing story made me think of my granddaughter, a beautiful girl with a lyrical voice and many other talents, but very shy due to her ADHD and dyslexia. Fortunately, like Jen’s parents, her mother has helped support her academically and emotionally, and taught her to work hard and never give up on her dreams.
The author, Lois W. Stern was very successful in capturing the importance of every person to strive to reach their goals. Although
No Such word As Can’t held special meaning for me, I Ioved all the stories in this book, and couldn’t stop reading until I reached its last pages. Now I plan to share all the stories in this book with my granddaughter, and encourage others to do the same.
What wonderful sources of conversation can be found in each story!
An avid book lover
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2014Like with any other collection of stories, the quality varies from chapter to chapter because of the included authors. The small size of the book makes for an ideal gift to people who need a burst of uplift, for some reason or the other, since all of the stories have the inspirational theme in common. Who wouldn't feel better when reading about a young girl who becomes a professional acrobat in spite of a severe physical handicap ("No Such Word as Can't")? And who could resist a sense of hope when reading about the appearance of what may have been an angel in human form ("Maintenance for my Soul")?

“There can be a silver lining after the storm. Just promise yourself and your loved ones that you will seek it out.” Each story is amazing, and when I thought a story was over the best part was yet to come! Incredible and true reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2013Bravo to Lois Stern for putting together a delightful collection of uplifting stories that will leave you with a smile in your heart. After finishing this book, I ordered several more copies to give as gifts.

The Emerald is the birthstone gem that symbolizes intuitive awareness.
I have long believed that intuition is the strongest sense and the greatest gift that we can possess. The fifteen awe-inspiring and inspirational tales contained in The Emerald Collection certainly give credence to ways that intuition can validate, support, and comfort us, oftentimes when least expected.
James Osborne's "Dragonflies and the Great Blue Heron" has big-screen potential - a story of love over a lifetime with symbolic connections joining the past and the present. Hoping this review reaches the agents of Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, and Helen Mirren!
In "The Remarkable Tale of Two Elephants", Lois W. Stern shares the loving bond between a surrogate mother and daughter, Jenny and Shirley, that endured after decades of separation in a heartwarming tale - reminding us that true love endures through the good times and the bad.
This is a book that you or the reader in your life can reach for when an infusion of optimism, faith, and hope is in order - with absolutely no expiration date!
