As she fights to clear her name, she learns her husband has been selling far more than cars through their successful dealership, and the corruption is linked to a prominent judge... with tentacles reaching straight into San Diego PD. The deadly fallout puts her life in jeopardy.
When a witness disappears, and the threat of a reporter on the hunt for headlines is removed, lead Detective Tom Hall is told to walk away from the case. But the widow is an enigma. Unwilling to let go, he risks what's left of his stalled career by following leads on his own time. He refuses to let Bygie walk away until he uncovers the truth.
Sometimes, you just can't see crazy... even when it's staring you in the face.

From the Author
It takes more time than most would believe possible to get a book to print. I found it best to walk away from the project and let it rest awhile. Months and months in fact. Whenever I re-entered the world I'd created for my story, I had a sharper eye for what was a bunch of hogwash and what might be pretty darn good. The right words in the correct order can have a powerful impact and it takes time to fit all of the pieces together.
Support is also needed in a big way. Writers need editors and readers that will preview with a critical eye and not be afraid to tell you the truth. Family needs to understand the vacant look that comes with brain overload while figuring out plots. Staring into space is working.
Reading is how I relax. I devoured books as a child and that appetite has not diminished. My favorite genre is mystery, but I also venture away from the top ten list of well known mystery writers and read a broad spectrum of non-fiction.
I play a lot during the summer months, not much gets done in the way of work. We are a household of landspeed racers. I race a 1941 Indian Motorcycle and hold records in the 350cc vintage class for both gas and fuel. I'm also proud to be part of history as a Bonneville SCTA starter. The hours are long, the sun is hot, but the reward is inspiring. To witness dreams becoming reality is humbling.
I'm currently working on my next novel, another mystery with a strong female protagonist. (Well, I will be working on it when summer is over!)
Thanks for stopping by!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2013This is a really great debut novel, from an author I trust will do as well in the future. Differing from most self-published firsts, this book has gone through copy-editing. The awkward misspellings and sentence fragments are nowhere to be found - making this a "can't-put-it-down" read.
It's reminiscent of early efforts from John Sandford, Robert J. Parker, Dick Francis and others - taut plotting, realistic locations, believable characters wholly formed, natural dialog... sometimes the descriptions are a bit long; other times, well, I wanted to shake the sand out of my shoes.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2015This book started out great...fast paced and covered a lot of ground in setting up a murder mystery set in San Diego. The main characters, Bygie and Detective Tom, were introduced and we were immediately pulled in to the story. But at about the 15% mark, the story loses a lot of steam as it reverts back to an overly long and detailed account of Bygie and Lars' courtship and early stages of their marriage. This part, while essential in painting a picture of the couple, just went on too long. The story picked up again as we eventually return to present day, in the middle of the mystery again. Some new characters appear, and a few of them become suspects as the mystery deepens. Then the reveal of the villain came, and I really thought the 'surprise' could have been dragged out with more suspense, as it was too convenient. Then the climax comes and goes, and I will admit it was a decent ending to the mystery and the apprehension of the perp. The book should have ended there, because here's where the author lost me. The next two chapters are downright awful. The first half of Chapter 54 is nothing but a vehicle for the author to maliciously paint a certain demographic (that she obviously loathes) in a very negative light. This 'epilogue' had absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the book nor any of the characters. Totally unnecessary, as it brought nothing to the story. Then Chapter 55 is a rambling monotonous description of a lonely house on a beach in North Carolina...every board, window, door, picture, mirror, etc, etc, is described in great detail that nobody cares about. Seriously...an entire chapter dedicated to describing a house? Bor-ing. I am literally scratching my head over these two chapters...it was as if they were written by someone else, or at a completely different time frame. Those parts, being so near the ending, really took the luster off what should have been a modest four star effort. The final chapter actually gets back to the story, as it follows Tom during the aftermath of this prominent case, but it makes a grand assumption that there was any kind of relationship between the two when there really wasn't, save for a few stray thoughts during the case. The overall feeling I had after finishing it was less than enthusiastic. She should have stopped at Chapter 53.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2013This was an awesome read from a new author who nailed it. I was drawn in immediately. Many of the character could be your neighbors or family making them so easy to relate to. Many twists to the plot that just kept me wanted to continue reading and not wanting to put it down. As a perpetual mystery reader, it is indicative of the big name authors earlier works. I will recommend this to anyone and cannot wait for Jill Shannon's next book.
ABSOLUTLY A GREAT READ!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2014Bygie Hudson's life has just crashed down, pulling her sense of reality, innocence, and gullibility along with it. Her husband of fifteen years has been killed in an accident, and everyone, and everything, is pointing accusation fingers at Bygie.
Detective Tom Hall is warned away from the case. But, Tom has developed a fond curiosity for truth, and compassion tinged with a bit more, for Bygie Hudson. She doesn't seem the type to harbour revenge in her mind. Her vulnerability is almost impossible to hide. Her isolation as an artist makes her suspect in some suspicious eyes, but not in his.
Image of Deceit has well rounded and developed characters with an interesting and plausible plot line. I enjoyed reading this debut novel written by Jill Shannon. I will search for additional work by this gifted author. Thank you.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2013I love murder mysteries and started reading this book during a major snow storm that had us stranded for several days. I was hooked from the get go. I was so glad I had all day as I did not want to put it down. My one fear was that my kindle would run out of power before I reached the end and I would have to wait to find out who did it. This has twists and turns you don't see coming, people involved that you never suspected. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a murder mystery. I hope there is a sequel in the works.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2013Despite what the blurb, the title and the cover image may lead you to believe, Image of Deceit is not a hardboiled suspense novel but rather an altogether cozier read weaving together strands of mystery, loss and love. Bygie Hudson and Tom Hall are likeable, nicely crafted protagonists; the cast of supporting characters is less well-developed and while the answer to "whodunnit?" comes out of left field, the quality of the writing is enough to carry you through to the satisfying end.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2013I thought I was reading a David Baldacci book. It took a while do develop the story but then that's what all good Mysteries take. At some point you get to where you can't put it down. I like her character development and intriguing story lines. I would definitely want to see what she does for a followup to this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best I have ever read
Image Of Deceit Wow!!! Jill Shannon has a wonderful way with words. This is most definitely a book that is a "Page Turner". OK, I made a guess at the guilty party before they were revealed but that didn't spoil it for me. Honestly go for it if you can. I was lucky and got it as a free book but it worth the current price.
