- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2021A book about the different kinds of spiders and what the do for humans. I liked how there was a story to follow as I learned about the different types of spiders. I learned a lot about them. I never knew there were so many different types. Each has their own look as well as their own living conditions. I always thought they all spun webs like you see in corners of rooms but they don't. I liked that photographs were shown. This is perfect for your 4-8 year old as well as adults.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2013The precious cover immediately grabbed my attention. Once I laid my eyes on it, I knew I just had to buy it to read to my grandchildren. We all loved this entertaining, educational book about six different types of spiders. The photos are exceptionally detailed, colorful and lifelike. As we read the spider story together, we all learned many spider facts that we didn't know before. I rated this book with five stars because not only was it fun, but also through reading the book, we all had an opportunity to see the valuable service that spiders provide for us humans. Great job!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2014During afternoon tea yesterday I got roped into reading an eBook copy of this creepy and beautiful kiddies book.
I want to give it a big shout out because I thought the author did a fantastic job at making spiders loveable and cute and not worthy of being trampled, poisoned or squashed to death.
My 4 and 2 year old found it immensely entertaining at different levels.
The older was more focused on the story while the 2 year old stayed enthralled with the real but beautifully captured pictures of spiders.
I loved that the story cleverly teaches the benefits and importannce of nature conservation through entertainment. I can actually see this book being a very valueable addition to a grade R and 1 lesson plan.
My only concern was that spiders came out completely harmless which is not necessarily what I would like my children to think.
I think it’s ok to give a little word of caution to children who may not have the capacity to differentiate between harmless and poisonous spiders. I’ve seen some very nasty results from spider bites.
Other than that my little ones were rapt for 20 minutes and immediately wanted it read again…….
I do believe I have just featured my very first childrens book on the blog. Thank you Alice.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2015Wish I had this book when my children were younger. One of my children was really afraid of spiders. The author's approach is to create sweet characters to narrate the story of different types of spiders as they play and learn with each other. I discovered a few types I did not know existed like Wolf Spiders and Crab Spiders. Cussler explains how each group of spiders look, move, and interact with their environment. She points out that they destroy insects and pests harmful to humans. Strange that humans are so afraid of these tiny creatures.
The illustrations complement the text and clarify the text. Perfect for children in the primary grades, for those who love insects and those who need an eye-opener to alleviate their fears. Look forward to exploring other books in this series.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2013Alice Cussler has done all our little ones a great service. I wish my sister had seen this when she was little. Spiders still scare her (me, not so much due to some great Girl Scout leaders). What a great way to get to know different kinds of spiders with brilliant, bright photos of real ones along with a a fun story. My home has a lot of small spiders and now I feel badly that I was the bully and squished one scuttling across the floor last week. Sorry! Now I know better. I definitely recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm scared of spiders!
I bought this book to try to cure myself of my ridiculous fear of spiders.
I think spider webs are beautiful, and I could never kill a spider (I'm too scared to get close enough), but even just looking at the pictures in the book made me go 'goosey'.
I know it is silly, I know spiders are harmless and I appreciate what they do, but I'm still scared of them.
Maybe I'll be better when I grow up. After all, I'm only 47!
A lovely, educational book for kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Pictures!!!
If you have arachnophobia it's possible that this book might not be for you as there are some incredible close up pictures of 6 different spiders, you'll see what I mean on page 1. This isn't a book that just talks about spiders, there is a story running through the book, and each character is a different spider. This is a really great book and I highly recommend it.

all of those eyes looking at me! I like the way this is a story and informative and I think children who love these creapy crawlers spiders would like this book! The photos are very real - no I did not touch the screen at any time! :)
