Twin Evils? Kindle Edition

3.1 3.1 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

Once upon a time there was a pair of twins, a girl and boy. Ruth was blonde, blue eyes, very fair and really good. Max was dark haired, grey eyes, broody and bad. Their next door neighbour and pal, Hilda, tried to be friends with both but it was not an easy task. They didn’t like each other and she found herself in the middle trying to keep the peace. Max found his sister impossibly perfect and tiresome, and Ruth could not stand her brother’s bad boy attitude and his horrible behaviour. She was scared of him. Ruth was too perfect and child-like for the real world and Hilda suspected something was wrong but didn’t know what. Was she the angel everybody took her for? Was she ill? When both twins started talking about fate and said that “something” would happen she worried. What could she do? And indeed they were right. Something did happen.

My name is Olga Núñez Miret and I’m a writer. I have also done translations of my and other authors' work, teach English, volunteer at a local radio station, and I have worked as a psychiatrist.. What else? I was born in Barcelona, Spain, and after living in the UK for over 25 years I decided to go back there searching for inspiration. Over the years I’ve done many things and had other lives but, however far I wander, I keep coming back to books and stories, my two earliest loves. When reading was no longer enough, I started writing. My first book was published in 2012 and my publications span different genres, from literary fiction to romance, Young Adult, psychological thrillers, and non-fiction. I plan on writing more novels in the same genres and if my imagination so dictates, I will explore others. I love to connect with readers, so don’t hesitate to get in touch..

You can also find me in the usual places and I always include links in the books. Don’t forget to check my website/blog. I share reviews of my favourite authors and you will always find some surprises

Me llamo Olga Núñez Miret y soy escritora.

Twin Evils? By Olga Núñez Miret grabs your attention in a very shocking way and never lets go. I'll say it up front. This novella has sexual content and slang language that might upset some readers. It is listed as YA, but I wouldn't allow young teens to read it. Twin Evils? is written in an inviting stream of consciousness manner that is as natural and as easy as conversation occurs. Now that the disclaimers and style commentating are finished, let's get to the fun.

Most twins are portrayed as being close and loving, sometimes speaking their own twin language, and essentially completing each other. So I enjoyed the concept of twins having sibling rivalry. But what happens when the twins who need to complete each other don't fit together and balance each other properly?

The theme of Max's dark moods, black thoughts and mean deeds is carried throughout the novella. Comparatively, his sister Ruth is the white dove who is childlike and innocent throughout the story. But is she as innocent as she seems? Or is she just playing her role in the drama? Then close friend and neighbor, Hilda is added to the mix. Both of the twins vie for her attention and approval. But how can Hilda choose between Max's deviant behavior and need for her approval and Ruth's seemingly normal sweet, but sometimes childlike behavior? The ending leads me to believe that Ruth might have had a bit of a dark side, too.

I found myself wondering what made the twins turn out so differently. They are as different as night and day; dark and light; bad and good. Was it their environment? Mom and Dad despise Max's dark behavior, and delight in Ruth's angelic sweetness. Did their parents have a hand in creating the twins' differences by reinforcing both Max's and Ruth's natural tendencies? Or was it genetic, with each twin being born with an abnormal imbalance leading to aberrant behavior, both bad and good, to the extreme? The novella ends without answering these questions, but the author leaves it open for a sequel and I truly hope she writes it with these questions in mind.

This review is for the Kindle edition ebook.

Twins, one is blue-eyed and blonde; one is very bad, dark haired and grey eyes. Mystery, intrigue, suspense, romance - they all exist in this novella.

This is the story of twins, one of whom is female, blonde hair, blue eyes. Typically very good and well behaved. The other is male, dark hair, grey eyes, moody and not so nice most of the time. The next door neighbor, about the same age, has known both twins for years and tried to be a friend to both. The older the twins become, the harder it becomes to be a friend to both. There are all the elements of a good book here, mystery, intrigue, suspense, romance.

This story is a novella, a short story that takes a couple of hours to read. It tells the story of twins, who are quite opposite in appearance and behavior. A neighbor who is friends to both twins is caught between them. It gives the reader ample time and space to change the story as desired, yet is complete in itself.

The author has written about sibling rivalry taken almost to its limits with twins. There is enough reality to give the reader something to think about. There is also a bit of the fairy tale mixed in, and the reader will determine parts of the story, in their own minds.

For those readers who enjoy sibling rivalry in a story, this is perfect. For those who think twins should be opposites, this is perfect. For readers with limited time to read a story, this is perfect. For those who desire a bit of horror mixed into their stories, this is great!

TWIN EVILS? by Olga Nunez Miret, is a young adult novella--and five excellent stories later, I stand by my original assertion-Olga Nunez Miret is an exceptional story-teller of impressive talent! TWIN EVILS? is the story of Hilda, Max, and Max's twin sister Ruth. This cliff-hanger pulls readers into a succession of twists and turns leaving us hanging by our finger tips--and wanting more! There is something extra special about Olga Nunez Miret's young adult characters that has stood out to me since her first book: THE MAN WHO NEVER WAS. Thankfully, she is working on a series of novels for young adults! This novella is an amazing first in what I hope will be many within this genre. Thank you, Olga!!! --cheryl coppenrath

Twin Evils was a quirky little story about how one twin is good and one is bad. This is then usurped and the evil twin comes good in the end…sort of.

Ok, I didn’t really enjoy this book. I read it in so much that I took in the story but the story didn’t take me. I found myself picking over the grammar mistakes and strangeness rather than being swept away. I was, in truth, reading it to get to the end.

It wasn’t the best story I have ever read.

Twin Evils? by Olga Nunez Miret is available now.
