From the Author

I have been often asked where my motivation comes from for this intense romantic suspense novel. Over the last thirty five years I have worked in international real estate as a certified international property specialist. Knowing the world of real estate helps me to describe this world that I have placed by characters. The working title to the novel was BOY TOY. Relationships between my hero and heroine had many obstacles and conflicts facing them. First, and the most obvious, was their difference in age. But the biggest problem facing Rachel is her career, which had been the main focused in her life, leaving her no time for a man to share it with.

I think this short passage from the first chapter explains where this book is heading.
"While she had always enjoyed spending money on her expensive clothes and jewelry designed by such names as Prada, Gucci, and Cartier to reflect her success, she knew they revealed the harsh reality of the sacrificed time and energy she had spent on acquiring them.
She was not near as vain as most people thought since she fully knew these cold, lifeless treasures did nothing to warm her bed at night. Her fabulous collection couldn't come close to filling the empty hole in her life threatening to swallow her. Where has my youth and my very life gone? Where is love? Inches from giving in to self pity, the thoughts of buzzing Detective Lindstrom in from below moments ago brought her back from the brink of despair."

In this love story Rachel Contino is a proficient, thirty-eight year old realtor and like many of her professional girlfriends who have no time for a life outside of their profession. When she meets Carlos Martinis, a twenty-three year old mortgage broker, she yields to the teasing of her friends and attempts to make this stud her boy toy only to discover he's much more of a man than a boy as he attempts to make her his party girl instead.

Meanwhile, her world falls apart when her main client, developer Jonathan Harrell dies in an apparent suicide. New evidence surfaces that it wasn't a suicide but murder. This is soon followed up by the murder of Jonathan's partner. These murders inside a condo complex hosting her largest number of listings, as well as the real estate meltdown, makes her sales all but disappear, forcing her into a deep financial turmoil.  As the murderer closes in she must fight back.

In her darkest hour she has to depend on a guy she wanted to make into a toy--one that she hopes that she has not lost forever due to her rude behavior. Relying on love rather than her money is a hard lesson to learn, but one that she has to before it's too late and Carlos leaves her and the murderer makes his final move.

This was a long drawn out novel. It would have been much better shortened. A big problem was the last letter of the words on the right hand margin were missing. There were also many grammatical errors.

I enjoyed this thriller of a killer targeted a small group of people for an unknown reason with a backdrop of a budding romance between a mysterious, younger man and an older, insecure, independent female real estate agent. I liked that Rachel, though successful, was an insecure because of getting older. It's tough for many women as they mature and head into middle-age and mid-life crisis. Because Carlos is younger and handsome, it makes her more insecure. Her 'friends' call him her boy toy and don't take the relationship seriously. Rachel tries to hold on to it by demeaning herself and clinging to him.

Surprisingly, Carlos is the more mature and secure person, but can he be trusted? He comes and goes. Who is he? The killer? A young guy having a good time? I like that I wasn't sure until the end who and what he was. That helped keep the suspense going.

This book also showed how the group of women, all successful in their own ways, were shallow and not really good friends. And as dead bodies were discovered, the women weren't so helpful to each other. It's a spotlight on a small community and how disconnected they really are. The good times with drinking and parties cover lives that are less than fulfilling.

I wasn't sure until it was revealed who was the murderer. I was satisfied with how it worked out. This book could use some editing, and I would have liked an epilogue. Some sexy, romantic scenes with Carlos and Rachel would have added wonderfully to this story. Overall, I enjoyed this book as a suspense/mystery with some romance.

I had trouble getting into the story. The main character is really not sympathetic to me. She is so shallow and the author keeps pushing that fact over and over. You really feel sorry for the younger man she is interested in. And you really wonder what on earth there is to love in her...
The murders and the search for the culprit are really what keeps you going...

I tried really hard to like this book. I read a teaser somewhere that compared it to Fifty Shades. NOT in the slightest. It was very hard to make a connection with the main characters. Rachel is shallow and vain, and I could never picture Carlos as a 22 yr. old with his dialogue. There was absolutely no chemistry between the two, and the sex scenes were really strange. The dialogue between this couple that is supposedly growing quite attracted to each other is very stilted, unnatural and disjointed. There is no character development. At one point, a character that is in a coma is referred to as dead. I had to go back and read to make sure there wasn't something I missed. There were also lots of proofing errors, which gets distracting. I had the killer figured out about halfway through the book, it was fairly predictable. The ending was very disappointing. I wouldn't recommend, unfortunately.

One reviewer complained about the editing. I'd have to agree with him that this book did need better editing, but if one looks beyond the misused words, it was a decent read. I connected with the characters, and could envision them. I did think the plot was a bit jumpy, but overall, I enjoyed it. I'll probably reread this book just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Enjoyable romantic suspense story. There were lots of exciting twists and turns. The formatting was slightly out of wack on my kindle so the last letter of each line was half hidden. The dialogue was a bit wooden and I didn't warm to the main character until the end. Worth a read if this is your kind of thing. I am not sure it's mine

Quite sorry I couldn't get in to this book as the blurb & context sounded good.

Got to chapter 4 and it felt a little drawn out and long winded already

Bought the book a few years ago on free kindle books and only just got round to reading it as have bought better books since which I have read first. Glad i didn't buy the book as would have been disappointed.
