USA Today bestselling author Sharon Stevenson lives in Scotland with her husband. She probably spends too much time indoors, binge-watching Netflix shows and finding new and irrefutable reasons to order takeaway food instead of cooking. Her urban fantasy novels include the bestselling Gallows demon tracker series, and Edinburgh set magically animated zombie series, Raised, which readers often recommend to fans of Jim Butcher.

This was a highly entertaining, fun, exciting book to read. This is a great follow up to Blood Bound, which ended so un-expectantly for me that I had to go racing into Demon Divided to find out what happened next, and that's a sign of a really good author, telling a compelling story. When I reviewed Blood Bound there was a nagging familiarity to the way Sharon Stevenson was telling the story that was frustrating me because I recognized it, but I couldn't put my finger on it, I originally said it was like Jim Butchers Dresden Novels, which it is to a certain extent, but halfway through Demon Divided it hit me...Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Now I mean that as a high compliment, because I think the TV show written and directed by Joss Whedon was one of the most brilliant and fun TV programs ever. And at the core of the TV program, just like in these two books by Sharon Stevenson, was the relationships between the characters in-between all of the battles and adventures. There was always a wise crack, always a relationship issue, always something that made the characters that much more real in your eyes, even while they're dealing with such supernatural problems. The interplay between Shaun, Sarah, Ray, Ben, Dev, and Elle is full of wise cracks, uncomfortable moments, and personal issues that combine to draw you in and make you care about the characters, especially when they get into the tense life threatening situations. I read a lot of books and very few of them hit that perfect pitch between getting you to care about the characters and putting them in wild situations you want to see them survive, but Sharon Stevens has done it, in both of her books. I'd highly recommend both books, and I'm looking forward to the third book Fate Fallen, which I hope is coming out soon.

This is my first venture into Stevenson's world of vampires, demons, and other terrifying characters. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I found that her casual humor and tongue-in-cheek writing style held my attention and made me want to keep reading. An example of the wonderful dry humor that made me laugh out loud is this: "Shaun paused to think. He didn't want to go to the effort of taking her head off again. Not in his new coat."
Shaun and Sarah are twins whose mission in life is to hunt and destroy demons. Apart from the fact that Sarah keeps a vampire locked in her basement, and they behead and hammer stakes into the hearts of their prey on a daily basis, these siblings could be any brother and sister anywhere in the normal world. The brother/sister relationship is delightful, and typical of any siblings anywhere. Their romantic liaisons are filled with conflict made more complex by the fact that the people they are attracted to are not human.
It is the crazy combination of monsters, blood-letting and horror with the normalcy of their day to day relationship that creates the tension and keeps the reader so engaged. After all, who wouldn't want a pet werewolf lying on their doormat?

**I received a free copy of this e-book in a giveaway, which did not influence my opinion in any way.

At the end of Blood Bound, Sarah had just met a seductive friend whose motivations were unclear. Demon Divided wastes no time jumping back into the action. The momentum is non-stop as new and old characters make appearances, and the bond grows ever stronger between Sarah, Ray, and the hilarious Dev. Meanwhile, Shaun deals with the aftermath of a former amorous enemy and stumbles upon new supernatural developments that require the help of a snarky psychic, Elle.

The demon hunter twins are more endearing than ever, and the book almost reads like a supernatural-style noir with its deliciously dark characters and atmosphere. Stevenson doesn't talk down to her audience and leaves just enough clues to lead to a thrilling conclusion, so make sure you pay close attention while reading! I appreciated that Stevenson has created a very strong character in Sarah, who is fully in charge of her femininity and kicks demon butt--no weak heroines here! Dev is also a very unique character and personal favorite, he keeps growing on me book by book! Stevenson has a very signature writing style that is light on description and avoids info-dumping, and I truly love the balance between characters and plot. This definitely is not an urban fantasy disguised as a romance (like many books trending nowadays where the plot is sacrificed for the sake of a love story) and readers will be satisfied with the ending's tantalizing hints about Book III. Excited to see what's next for the twins!

I give this book 3.5 stars. This is the second book in The Gallows series. While you can read this book without having read Blood Bound, I don't recommend it as it helps you to understand what's going on in Demon Divided. The book doesn't end in a cliffhanger but you know the story isn't over at the end of the book. There is violence.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. This series a fascinating mix of demon trackers, witches, fairies, vampires, demons, and humans. There is a lot of action as well as twists and turns, curses, blood bonds, and complicated relationships.

I am enjoying this series. As with reading the first book, I found that I could not put it down. There are more books in the series, so there is plenty more of the story to hopefully answer the unanswered questions left after reading the first two books.

I got the first part on a free day, and based on the fact that I liked it quite a lot, finally treated myself to part 2.
As a person who normally runs from anything smelling of teenage heroes, demon hunters or vampires, liking part 1 was odd enough, but I found myself just as engrossed in part 2. It's the characters' fault. The dialogues, especially between oversexed, ruthless and violent Sarah and her constantly grumpy, surly twin Shaun, had me hooting with laughter.
There were a couple of proofreading errors, but they didn't spoil the pleasure. I'm curious as to what happens next. Looks like I'll have to read the rest of the series, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A review of Sharon Stevenson's "Demon Divided" by Matt Holgate

'Demon Divided' is the second book in Sharon Stevenson's Gallows series. If the first book - 'Blood Bound' - could be said to throw you into the action from the get-go, the same is true of the follow-up. However, while the first let you figure out the various facets of Stevenson's Urban Fantasy world as you went along, it was still a set up book, with the usual limitations. Even when you could take vampires and witches and councils (oh my!) for granted in 'Blood Bound', you were still learning about the Gallows siblings, Shaun and Sarah, and their friends. You insinctively knew the world if you knew the genre, but you still had to learn how the Gallows fit into it. A fun ride itself, but of a certain scope.

'Demon Divided' is a different beast altogether, and that makes it more rewarding and satisfying read. With the Gallows duo firmly established, Stevenson can really sink her teeth in (pun most certainly intended) and tell you the story she wants to tell, expanding along the way. There is meat to these here bones that will keep you hooked until the end ... and beyond. No spoilers, but fantasy and urban fantasy readers, you will not be disappointed.

    I wasn't.

    5.0 out of 5 stars VAMPIRES & BLOOD-SPLATTERED KILLINGS...WITH STYLE
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 23, 2014
Another great book in this great series. We meet again the siblings Sarah and Shaun, the demon trackers, Sarah torn between her ex, Ray, and her imprisoned vampire (whom she can't resist letting suck her neck), and Shaun immersed within his beguiling relationship with the psychic, Elle. Beguiling? Just that they're attracted to each other, but not quite enough...maybe... As well as the strong sexual elements described with well-delineated candour, we have scenes of blood-letting, vampire-killing, hunts for psychotic killers, beheadings, possessed bodies, more blood-splattered killings, more swapping of possessed bodies...all described in graphic detail in Sharon Stevenson's effortless, sophisticated style. She has created a genre of her own, a world of youthful vampires and demon trackers, who are into twisted relationships, and junk food. Her unique style of casual horror, or domestic vampirism, blends the paranormal or other-worldly with the mundane and everyday. The consummate ease and freshness of her style enables her to create this world of adolescent concerns, obsessions, and even smells, which are acted out and resonate within the arena of supernatural beings and situations. Her fine eye for detail--the state of the weather, the junk food stuffed down eager throats--lends a quirky authenticity to her stories, and is an essential ingredient of their originality. Check out this book. Check out the whole series. Superb.

Far better written than the first book in the series I think. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next instalment.
