BLOODLINES -- Blood War Trilogy: Book I Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 19 ratings

Werewolves—savage and brutal. Vampires—ruthless and deadly. For almost six hundred years the immortal clans have been sworn blood enemies, locked in vicious battle within the darkness of the mortal world. But a new threat has arisen, one with the potential to eradicate both species from existence: hybrids, offspring of forbidden unions between werewolf and vampire.

From violent beginnings in the fields of Romania, the conflict remains hidden by shadow in the ancient cities of London, Paris, and Rome. Hanging in the balance, the supernatural war is poised to explode as each species searches for a way to sever the bloodline of the other.

In a world filled with honor and nobility, treachery and betrayal, six centuries of hatred and bloodlust has consumed all.

The war will not end until one side claims victory—yet none are willing to yield. Here, there will be no winners or losers, only victims and survivors. Do you believe in monsters?

This novella was first published as the opening section of Dylan J. Morgan’s epic novel, Blood War.

I love a good "supernatural/vampire/werewolf saga" read, and have really enjoyed finding authors outside of the "bestseller" arena. This is definitely one of them. Everything about this book (1st in a trilogy) impresses. From the instant immersion into the "Bloodline Wars", the chapter by chapter leaping through time and location, and slow but satisfying lead character development, it is captivating.
There are no "favorites" in this war: no one gets spared just because they "love the right character" or "are one of the good guys". There is no second guessing to the plot twists - and I loved it. In fact (and this isn't the case for every book I am impressed with), I went straight ahead and grabbed Book 2 and 3 as soon as I finished reading this.
Finally, you WILL need to provide your own cheesy snacks for reading - I am glad to say there are no gratuitous chunks of cheddar in this book!
    5 stars, well earned.

Dylan Morgan has given me hope for once again reading about werewolves and vampires. Now, I look forward to more about hybrids as well.

His descriptive writing style held my attention as I quickly turned the pages.

I look forward to reading the full story in Blood War and will post a review when I'm done.

After reading Bloodlines, I've found a new author to follow.

Then you will love Bloodlines! Descriptive, beautifully written, we take a journey with Morgan through an ages old struggle between two different races--but not so different it seems. When some cross the bloodlines, a new species emerges. Bloody and deliciously brutal, this novel is packed full of fast paced action. I really enjoyed getting to know some of the characters, rejoicing their victories and grieving their losses. Morgan is able to pull the reader into the mind of his characters and feel their heart pound, their blood rush in their ears, and their adrenaline pump as they fight, flee, or take their final breath. To say I loved this book is an understatement! I can't wait to start on the book two!

If you like your Vampires and Werewolves vicious and merciless as they should be,...this is well worth it. After reading book 1 there's no way you'll not want to follow the story until the end. Go ahead and buy the trilogy at one time,..you won't regret it.
If you're one of those that want a gentle, love story with your monsters (which is pathetic) then don't buy this.

Bloodlines is a terrific intro to this horror writer. It's a short story, so that it's only a taste, but it's a delicious mouthful. Dylan revitalizes the tired mythology of werewolves and vampires, returning them to their former classic movie glory--this is not a paranormal romance, but the raw material for your nightmares. I can't wait to read Dylan's other books (and he has a bunch--happy me)!

How wonderful to discover a series that de-glamorizes the whole vampire / werewolf genre. The creatures of these stories are unremittingly vicious and barbaric, while still having a fascinating backstory. This first book will take you on small vignettes through the history of the conflict before delving deeper into some of the key characters and their struggles. The story is engrossing and shocking, definitely leaving you hungry for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brutal Vampires & Werewolves
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 14, 2013
'Bloodlines' is an introduction to the novel 'Blood War'. It gives a good glimpse into the dangerous and brutal world Morgan has created, letting us see what life is like for the werewolves, vampires & hybrids who populate the story.

As a taster this book works very well and if this is anything to go by the novel is likely to be brutal, action packed, tense & scary. Morgan doesn't waste a single word; each one adds to the atmosphere, and what an atmosphere that is! These are old school monsters, horrifying and deadly. If you like your supernatural creatures savage you'll love Morgan's creations.
