- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2013I was so touched by this author, his struggles, daily life, illness and yes, depression that I donated my copy to our church's Oregon basket...we raffle each year. Now it's on my kindle. When I need advise I sometimes only need the bumper stick, and then there is serious prayer. It works. djb
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2017I purchased this book at a writing conference bookstore. Signs of Hope by Douglas Bolton is enlightening, encouraging, humorous, serious, but most of all, helpful. His book contains a wealth of practical and spiritual wisdom. It has six parts, some of which include “Fighting Through the Trials, Prayer, Christian Living, and Witnessing.” Most chapters are short, just a few pages, and have a devotional feel. The author’s stories and illustrations are heartfelt, relatable. I love the “Something to Ponder” comment at the end of each chapter. Signs of Hope is an excellent book. It’s that good.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2013Do you feel inadequate in your life? Do you feel that everything is out of control? Or are you depressed or unloved?
Douglas Bolton shows us where to turn, how to turn, and Who to turn to. By using his own experiences, his own failures, Bolton leads us to his source of strength and beyond. It's not enough to know Jesus, we also need to trust that He has our best interests at heart and loves us more than we can ever imagine.
Bolton encourages us to read our Bibles daily, for how strong can we be if we refuse to connect to God's written words for us? He also encourages us to attend church. Because we are social beings, we need each other. Can't find the perfect church? That's good, because not one of us is perfect, and we're in good company. He does make one condition: choose a church that preaches right out of the Bible. A social doctrine won't strengthen us. Only God's word will.
Bolton uses very short chapters that can be read as part of a morning devotional. The book is both easy to understand and entertaining to read. I highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2011Doug Bolton has written a book that can and should be referred to often. There are great books that I have read where I find myself pulling them off my bookshelf more than once. . . they don't collect dust. These are books that no matter how many times they are read you can always learn something new and with that learning develop a sense of HOPE and direction. Mr. Bolton has written just that kind of book. Thank you Doug for making us think (ponder) and I look foreword to the adventures God has for you and for myself in a world in which we can often find it hard survive.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2011I highly recommend this book. Doug Bolton shares from his experience and offers wisdom that is timeless. His book remind the reader that there is always hope for those who follow Christ.
