Setting: Three Sisters Island

Sensuality: 7

A stunningly beautiful, powerful witch who possesses the gift of Fire, Mia Devlin locked her heart away when Sam Logan rejected her youthful love and left Three Sisters Island. Eleven years later, Sam returns to the island to claim Mia and take over his family business, the Magick Inn. Passion still burns between them, but Mia refuses to trust the man who once tore her life apart, leaving her grieving and alone. It's imperative that they find a way to resolve their thorny, complicated relationship for time is running out and the deadline for breaking a centuries-old curse is near. Mia has the steadfast aid of her two sisters of the heart, powerful witches that rule Air and Earth, but without Sam's help, even Mia's powers may not be enough to keep her alive until the deadline. And unless Mia makes the right choice about her heart and Sam, evil may win in the final confrontation, destroying all their lives and Three Sisters Island as well.

Face the Fire is the third and last book in bestselling author Nora Roberts's trilogy of witches, magic, and an age-old curse that began with Dance upon the Air and Heaven and Earth. This novel boasts a vivid seaside setting, sympathetic characters, and enough details about the practice of magic to intrigue the most cynical of readers. This is Roberts at her best. Don't miss it. --Lois Faye Dyer

From Publishers Weekly

The final installment in Roberts's Three Sisters trilogy (after Heaven and Earth), which is set on a New England island called Three Sisters, lacks the compelling emotional drama that has won her such a loyal readership. After being abandoned by her lover 12 years before, white witch Mia Devlin has developed a charming bookstore and cafe, a spectacular garden and a close circle of friends, all of whom share her involvement in the Craft. Only an age-old curse mars Mia's idyllic existence and threatens the future of the island itself. Then her former flame, Sam Logan himself a witch returns to the island, determined to win Mia back. The paranormal elements that tastefully flavored a number of Roberts's earlier titles is a bland additive here, creating the book's only suspense and filling scene after scene with discussions and manifestations of magic. Those who don't believe in spells, charms or paranormal wolves may find it hard to enjoy this story and the hokey chanting that comes with it ( No one who passes now need fear. You can do no more harm here ). As always, Roberts's prose is gracefully styled, and her storytelling is deft despite the weak material. But with perfect jobs, perfect homes, perfect hair and the force of the Craft behind them, Mia and company are barely human enough to move the reader's heart.

Should've been Book 1...
The first 2 books were serious page turners! This last book was, however, the story line didn't build. Even the "final battle" wasn't big. She built up the stories and had you believing that it was going to end with a bang, it wasn't even a thud. For some reason I noticed a heavy level of errors, as I am reading the story. NR must self publish because I spent more time correcting her grammar, spelling, punctuation, and even meanings than I did enjoying the story itself. Makes it harder to read sometimes when you're not sure what the author is saying.I do like this trilogy, I actually LOVE all her magickal trilogies, however this book, FTF, should have started with Mia's story, not ended with it. Still a good read if you generally love books.

I always wait until I’ve finished the third book in the trilogies, to write a review, so it’s really a review of the entire trilogy. This review is no different.

I read, and I read a lot, 2-3 books a day, when life gives me a moment. Nora Roberts is a phenomenal storyteller, so she’s one of my favorite authors. Characters, worldbuilding and plot lines are definitely her strengths. She is SO colorful and descriptive in her settings, that she makes you yearn to visit the places she describes!

Her characters are always well written, with complex and compelling backgrounds, and they’re always complete. It is definitely one of her gifts. Her storylines are always full of hopes and dreams, love and humor, as well as a little sadness, a little danger, and a lot of magic. They move along at a nice pace, and she keeps you interested throughout.

This trilogy has all of this, and more. I enjoyed it immensely! I recommend that you read the entire trilogy, in order. Otherwise, you will miss things, and they’re much more entertaining read in order. They are well worth the time taken to read them, and, if you’re like me, you’ll enjoy every minute of them. I highly recommend this trilogy, as it’s brilliant and entertaining. I hope you enjoy it and love it, just as I did!

Mia Devlin is one of the three witches that reside on Three Sisters Island. She controls "fire" and has always embraced her independence and power. For most of her life, Mia has always known what she has wanted. At the top of her list was Sam Logan, the son of a prominent family from Three Sisters. Of course, unsure of what he wants or what he wants to do, Sam left Three Sisters eleven years ago...headed to New York hoping to carve out his own life and make his own way. Broken hearted, Mia has never loved again or gotten tangled into another relationship since, but instead has focused on other things in her life. Now she spends most of her time practicing her magic, spending time loving her friends and fellow witches (loveable Nell and spunky Ripley), all while running her successful bookstore. So when Sam returns to town, wanting to reclaim not only the family business (a hotel) but Mia, she isn't sure how to react (initially but eventually they come to an understanding, sex only, no relationship). She will not risk her heart again, and definitely isn't willing to share her body and her magic with him and get burned again. But the evil presence that has been threatening to return to Three Sisters after being banished from the island by their ancestors (Nell, Ripley and Mia) and has taken the form of an evil wolf, has returned and wants no demands Mia's death. Everything and everyone Mia knows and loves is at stake. The question becomes, will Mia risk her heart to save all that she loves and use her magic to destroy the evil that threatens her very existence.

I enjoyed this novel. While it reminds me, in theme and plot to some of the other Nora Roberts books. You know the time honored proven plot of woman loves man, unconditionally...when he breaks her heart and leaves to "find" himself, only to return and stop at nothing to get the girl back...AND there is some danger out there that they must join forces and fight together. [Very similar to her recent Sign of Seven trilogy.] BUT no matter how many times we have heard and read something similar, we still love it. Roberts has the ability, after several dozen novels, to still weave the perfect tale of suspense, romance and this time a little of the paranormal to boot. I really enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to those who enjoy paranormal romances. I will say that I wouldn't consider this a good stand alone novel, not that you can't figure out what is going on but that it makes it more enjoyable to see the culmination of the storyline.

Face the Fire is the third book in the whimsical, spellbinding Three Sisters Island trilogy by Nora Roberts set on a picturesque island in Massachusetts. Having this series set in New England only adds to the magic and coziness of each story and each season - small, charming seaside town, with its sandy beaches, blue surf, sail boats and fishing docks, bookstore/cafe, cottages and characters that are near and dear to each and of course, sizzling romance, and witch's magic - though not the hokey kind of magic but modern day witches - think "Practical Magic" (if you’ve ever seen the Sandra Bullock/Nicole Kidman classic movie or read the book). Three Sisters Island is a cozy place to live and work! In this book we follow Mia's story, the most powerful sister preparing to face the third and final test that the three witches, Nell, Ripley, and Mia - must face in order to save the island and themselves from perishing into the roaring sea. However, Mia never counted on Sam Logan being a part of the final battle. He who is Earth and who is Mia's first and only true love has come back to Three Sisters to win back the heart of Mia and to share his magic in order to help save the island during the final battle with darkness that licks and threatens his girl and his island. Mia is perturbed at his sudden appearance, after breaking her heart and leaving the island years before, but she who is Fire is destined to open her heart and free herself and those she loves or lose her own life. Which path will she choose? With the help of her sisters and her carefully refined Craft and gift, Mia must gather the power within her and be brave enough to face the fire, to take a chance. This book will make you want to hang dried herbs in your kitchen, plant lavender in your garden, and drape crystals from your rear view mirror! Enjoy this mystical tale with a hot cup of coffee, happy reading!

This remains my most favourite series that Nora Roberts has ever written. I first read it decades ago when it was released, I’ve re read it countless times. Mia and Sam’s story is the epic finale in the fight to save three sisters island.
Nora Roberts really is the ultimate story teller, her books draw you in and are designed to read over repeatedly, always discovering something new in the text.

Fabulous book, regarding a battered woman who escapes her husband to the island where she finds she actually has powers and the other 2 women help her to escape her husband's attempted murder, just riveting , I couldn't put it down. You will be amazed at how she escapes. I won't tell you how, oh heck, they use, their power to make him think he has no control over her anymore and he has to deal with his own ugliness and it drives him mad, he of course is taken away. (and much more) There is a breath-taking fight. Its hard to write a review without leaking the storyline and spoiling it for you. This fight is the meat of the book, its the husband, Nell the battered witch, and Ripley's bother the sherrif. And some one is stabbed.

Oh the rest is so good. Ripley wrestles with her power, she doesn't want to accept it, and her new found love is drawn to it. For want of a better word, it is spell binding, you can't put it down. I never thought much of witches but this is humorous and believable. It convinced me enough to continue reading it with enthusiasm. I just love the book and will read the whole trilogy and have purchased them.

Nice to read. If you are fond of romance and like a magical touch, this book is the right choice for you.
If you have read book 2 and 1 of the trilogy you will once again meet Nell and Ripley and therefore get to know how their relationships develop.
